Prairie, Denton, Texas 76201 April 18, 1996 Subject: Signing modifications Control: 0364-02 County: Dallas Ken Griffin, P.E. Assistant City Manager/City Engineer , P.O. Box 478 Coppell, TX 75019 Dear Mr. Griffin: In response to the City's recent letter concerning SH 121 at Coppel Road we would like to make some changes to the existing signing in order to improve driver understanding of the intersection. The two principle changes we would like to pursue are to have the frontage roads stop for the cross traffic and to modify the one-way directional signs to improve clarity. The first change would involve removing the stop from all of the cross streets, including Coppell Road, Sandy Lake Road, and the two cross-overs in between those two streets, at the frontage roads. We would then have the frontage roads stop for the cross streets. The second change involves clarifying the one"way directional signage. There are various other minor changes which we will examine in the field. We are not closing any of the crossings at this time but would prefer to monitor the area for any change in the incidence of wrong-way travelers. We would like to re-examine this issue with yourself and the Police Department in approximately three months to determine if further change is necessary, we would appreciate any assistance the Police might be able to offer in monitoring this situation. If we may be of any further assistance or if you should have any questions, please contact Wes b[cClure, P.E., at (817) 387-1414. Sincerely, Claud P. Elsom III, P.E. Area Engineer WGM CC: Hon.
