After looking at the information more closely, it appears to me that the existing SS most likely is capped at a location under the westmost pavement lane. If we block off one lane of pavement and are careful as we excavate, to a likely depth of 13 to 15 feet the contractor should find the SS line. Scope of work will be as follows: 1. Cone off ONE lane of southbound traffic. 2. Cut and remove pavement, probably 8 ftx 10 ft. 3. Excavate with trench box being careful not to damage the existing 8 "Water line and the adjacent storm drain if it comes into play. 4. Find the SS line and extend it at least 20 feet back into the Davis property, install a manhole or plug it and mark it for future. 5. Backfill and replace the pavement and curb, re-opening the lane to traffic. 6. Cone off ONE lane of northbound traffic and a part of the entrance to the Mercantile. 7. Cut and remove pavement to find the abandoned manhole. 8. Excavate with trench box being careful not to damage the existing SS line and find the manhole and the line. Determine the work required to salvage the line and replace the manhole and connection to the 15" SS. 9. Backfill and replace the pavement and curb, re-opening the lane and driveway to traffic. No estimate of cost. It could take a couple of weeks to complete. We do not have any of this scope in this contract, so please consult Ken and Keith regarding what we are to do in this contract, so the plans can be finalized. This may be a project for a City crew, or an on-call contractor rather than part of the water line. I say this because it will be difficult to bid it without having an opportunity for a change order with changed conditions. Thank you, Douglas K. Showers, P.E.
