Mr. Ken Griffin
Director of Engineering
City of Coppell Water Department
255 Parkway Boulevard
Coppell, TX 75019
Dear Mr. Griffin:
I am writing to request consideration to an adjustment on my future water bill for
abnormal expenses I incurred as a result of the recent 'brown water' situation that
occurred in our neighborhood on August 31st.
In addition to the above-normal amount of daily water consumption necessary to
flush our household lines, the unfortunate water situation caused one of my lawn
sprinkler valves to freeze open; resulting in one zone running all night long. If I
read my water meter correctly, and interpolated against prior usage, it appears that
somewhere between 12,000 to 15,000 gallons of water passed through the valve due
to it's failure. I also had to expend $125.00 to have a sprinkler company locate and
replace the valve in question.
Unfortunately, the City's notification on the local access TV channel, about the
'brown water' situation, didn't come until the day following my assigned watering
day. I did not see the suggestion about not running sprinkler systems until it was
too late. According the the repair company I used, about eight other residents in and
around Pheasant Lane were affected in similar ways.
Any consideration that can be given to this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Lee C. Foreman

Re:
"Brown Water" incident
Sandy Lake Road Project ST 93-02
Dear Mr. Forman:
This letter is written in response to your September 11th and October 19th correspondence
concerning adjustment to your water bill and cost associated with having a sprinkler company
replace a valve that malfunctioned due to sediment within the City's water s.~'stem. I apologize for
not getting back with you sooner; however, upon receipt of your October 19u', 2000 letter I did find
your September 11th letter already placed with claims that had been filed against the City for the
same situation. ! apparently had inadvertently placed your letter in that file prior to responding.
With this letter, I am providing you a copy of a claim form. If you are seeking reimbursement for
costs associated with the "brown water" incident please complete and submit the form to the City
Secretary's Department at Town Center. These claims are being submitted to the contractor's
insurance company for resolution.
Again, I apologize for not responding more rapidly. If you have any additional questions please feel
free to contact me at 972/304-3686.
Sincerely,
Kenneth M. Griffin, P.E.
