Re: Corners of Coppell
Dear Ed:
Since our discussion with you early last week, we have been seeking the
additional data that you requested to support the pavement design pro-
posed for the Corners of Coppell. We have now received letters from
Maxim Engineers, Inc., and from ATEC Associates, Inc., both of which
confirm the adequacy of the 4-inch pavement thickness for the "light
traffic parking areas".
Maxim Engineering, as you will recall, provided the original geotechni-
cal information on the project site and the recommended pavement design.
They have provided additional technical design criteria and confirmed
the adequacy of the recommended 4-inch pavement thickness. ATEC Asso-
ciates, as you may be aware, provided the basis for the placement of the
select fill material on the site, performed the field density testing as
the material was being placed, and have now performed a pavement design
evaluation. Copies of the letter dated July 24, 1986, relating to the
12-inches of select file material and density test reports prepared as
the material was being placed on the site, were furnished by Ginn, Inc.
You will note that the ATEC letter addresses the 12-inches of select
subgrade material, the 18-inch spacing of reinforcing steel, and 4,000
psi concrete design in concluding that the 4-inch pavement thickness is
indeed adequate.
We trust that you will find this additional data to be sufficient basis
for your confirmation of earlier approval of the project design and re-
lease of the contractor to proceed with the construction now in prog-
ress.
Thank you for your consideration and cooperation in resolving this ques-
tion.
