SANDY LAKE CROSSING - REQUESTED LEFT-TURN LANE
DENTON TAP ROAD - BELTLINE TO SANDY LAKE ROAD
Since Kevin Peiffer's May 24, 1989, review letter (Copy Attached), and
Kevin's and my response to the City Council on May 23, 1989, Staff met
with the applicant on Friday, June 2, 1989, and have the following
comments and inquiries. (Please refer to attached submittal).
The applicant indicates that the median opening for the McDonald's
south drive on Denton Tap Road (common with the Shopping Center and
new Kentucky Fried Chicken), is not the standard required separation
distance from the Denton Tap Road intersection nose/opening.
Not allowing the median opening will load the 173-2010 P.M. peak hour
voluale onto the "Planned Median Opening", a lesser accessible
entrance, perhaps requiring signalization and phasing. What was the
design premise/assumption at providing the secondary entrance of this
development (Sandy Lake Crossing), a median opening and not the
access drive that will service the anchor stores (i.e. generate the
most traffic)?
3. What is meant by monitor?
4. What would the criteria be for closing the median opening,
congestion, accidents, City Engineer perception?
Would it be acceptable to Ginn, Inc. to receive the design drawings
from Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc., review and approve them, and
then allow them to become the basis for change orders to Denton Tap
Road C.I.P. Project?
Please let me know your response as the Project Engineer for the design
and construction of this C.I.P. Project. Thanks.
