Goram, Director of Public Wor Denton Tap Road Improvement - Sight Distance Concern Attached is a report from our Consulti~g ~ngineer, Ginn, Inc., regarding sight distance concerns expressed at the May 8, [990 City Council meeting. Our Consultant has reported that there is ample sight distance and that the pole and monument sign in the area does not pose significant visual obstructions. The request to look at this area was brought up in discussion at the time the Meadowcreek/Denton Tap median opening item was discussed according to Public Works staff in attendance at th=~ council meeting. Should you have any questions regarding this matter, please advise. SGG/sm GINN, INC. May 21, 1990 CONSULTING ENGINEERS Mr. Steve Goram, Director of Public Works City of Coppe11 P.O. Box 478 Coppell, TX 75019 Re: Denton Tap Road Improvements from Sandy Lake to Denton Creek Sight Distance Concern at Skagg's northernmost driveway Dear Mr. Goram: We recall that a question was raised during the April 24, 1990 city Council meeting by councilman Ron Robertson regarding an obstruction to vision consisting of a wall and some utility poles/structures adjacent to the driveway at the above referenced location. We have prepared a sketch showing the locations of the obstructions. Our review of the situation revealed that while the wall (monument sign) and telephone pedestal do not pose significant visual obstructions, the power pole does create a partial visual obstruction for drivers wishing to enter Denton Tap Road. This situation does not appear to be serious because once a driver pulls his car forward to within two or three feet of the curb line of Denton Tap Road, the visual obstruction is gone. We have also reviewed the situation regarding visibility for northbound motorists turning left from Denton Tap Road into the Connell/Skaggs Center. Our review indicates that there is ample sight distance for the vehicles turning left into the center. We received many complaints about visibility at this location while the rye grass in the medians was excessively high. Now that the grass has been cut, there does not seem to be any problems or complaints. We have revised the median landscape plans in this area to prevent further problems. Also we suggest that no signs or landscape features be allowed in the median within the first 150' north of the median opening. As we have already seen, the grass should be kept mowed in this area of the median. Please call me if you have questions. Sincerely, · Karlsruher, P.E. Project Engineer JCK/dsp cc: H.
