SUBJECT: Trees Along Sandy Lake Road
At the request of the Engineering Department, a visit has been made to review a number
of trees at the Sandy Lake construction site to determine the viability of the tre~s based
on the proposed development in the area. The trees are located along the north side of the
construction between Woodcrest and Trailwood Streets. The excavation required for the
proposal expansion of Sandy Lake has certainly taken a toll on these trees. Almost half
of the root mass has been removed from the trees causing the canopies to be extremely
dehydrated.
The plans for the project indicate a sidewalk in the immediate area of the trunk of the
trees with little or no space for the trees to grow. It is also staff's opinion that removing
the trees to another location would only further stress the trees with no probable surv/val.
With the above influences upon these trees it is doubtful they have much chance of
surviving. It is recommended the trees be removed, as they have become unsightly and
disturbing to some residents.
