ST8201-CS 881219 (2)becember 19, 1988~C COPPELL PUBLIC WORKS TO: Linda Grau, Assistant City Secretary FROM: Steve Goram, Director of Public Works RE: Your Memo: Detour of Bethel Road (Harris R 'Linda, as of this date I am. ~naware of any decision to close the intersection of Denton Tap & Bethel and detour traffic down Bethel School Road. Bethel School Road is 20 feet wide and the right-of-way is 25 feet hich leaves only 2~ feet~ on either side of the pavement. This oad was sealcoated in 1982 (if memory serves me correctly) and is primarily used by residents of the Hunterwood and Winddance Quadroplex. Our Street Forem~~' ~er Birdsall has advised me that both the stop ign and the stop ahead sign are visible from approximately 50 yards rom the point in which a vehicle mu'st come to a stop. The stop sign was installed at the recommendation of our City Engineer at the time Wi~ddance Quadroplex and improvements to Harris Road took place. It is staff's opinion from"fi~id obSe'rvations that the primary cause of sudden stops and/or the prOblems'that were mentioned was excessive speed by the motorists. The current speed on this road is 30 mph and it may be possible to ask the City Engineer to review this situation to determine whether the 30 mph speed limit is appropriate for this road. Staff .advised that there are additional~curve warning signs within this stretch of road on Bethel School. /The improvements to Denton Tap i'~"a Capital ~mprovement Project and is administrated by our Consulting' Engineer through our inhouse Engineering Department. I am forwarding your Memorandum to Russell Doyle in order that he may be apprised of your concern as it relates Ito any possible detour subsequent to the closure of Bethel Road at Denton Tap.
