ST8201-CS 881213COPPELL PUBLIC WORKS NI~ORANDIn~ December 13, 1988 TO: FROH: RE: Steve Goram, Director of Public Works Per Birdsall, Street Foreman ~ Bethel School Rd. (Harris Road) If the contractor requests this detour route, this will certainly be hazardous. As you may or may not be aware, the right-of-way width of Bethel School Rd. south of Harris is only 25' in width. This leaves little room for any immediate improvements, which would be needed to divert all of the eastbound Bethel Road's traffic. Though natural alternate routes would be sought by frequent travellers of Bethel Rd., the initital increase in traffic could last approximately two weeks, during which time access from Brooks, Harris, and Plantation would be difficult if not impossible during rush hours. Recommendations at this time would be either to have the Contractor maitain two way traffic at Denton Tap & Bethel or broaden the detour by beginning the detour at the intersection of Bethel & Coppell. If you have any questions, please advise. PHB/bb COPPELL PUBLIC WORKS December 12, 1988 TO: Steve Goram, Director of Public Works FRCM: Steven M. Morton, Chief Public Works Inspector RE: Bethel School Rd. (Harris Rd.) Steve, I read Dorothy's memorandun and I w~nt out to the intersection and the only solutions I can see are as follows: 1) Stop traffic in all directions (3 way) 2) Cut down trees to in,prove visability 3) Realign intersection into a "T" intersection I have nearly been hit by traffic travelinG at a high velocity of speed, not only at the intersection, but north of Bethel in the double reverse curves. I have stopped using this Bethel School due to the fact that the majority of traffic I encountered were tryinG to play "Road Racer" and cut the curves. S~M/bb GINN, INC. December 12, 1988 Mr. Tim Brancheau TU Electric CONSULTING ENGINEERS T-Ya~ 7~ e: Denton Tap Road Improvements, Coppell,~s. I am returning your proposed street lighting plans project marked with my comments. The comments are drawings in red and are as follows: for the above shown on the I have requested that the lighting assembly at approximate Station 110+12 to be relocated on your plans to a point 10 feet south from the current location in order to~ provide room for any future traffic signal installation at the Bethel Road intersection. I have added 2 - 2" PVC Conduits to our plans to accommodate the power service you show at approximate Station 198+80. I have~ added additional street lighting conduits and traffic signal interconnect conduits under the median opening at approximate Station 202+00 in order to allow for lighting of the remainder of the project north of the current location shown on your plans up to the south end of the bridge over Denton Creek. You should revise your lighting .plans to reflect street lights between approximate Station 202+00 and Station 206+29 (the south end. of the south approach slab for the bridge at Denton Creek). For this purpose we have enclosed a marked print of the paving plans of the area north of Station 202+00. Please revise your lighting plans in accordance with our comments and prepare a cost estimate for installation of the Coppell standard double Kim light fixtures, and an alternate cost estimate for the use of the double GE Decashield II luminaire fixtures as per the September 12, 1988 letter from Mr. Parsons to Mr. Goram. We appreciate your prompt response to our initial inquiry and your cooperation on this project. Please call me if you have any questions. Sincgrgly, ,, JoHn C. Karlsruher, P.E.
