Hager Container-CS 880908Memorandum

TO: Steve Goram, Public Works Director
FROM: Richard Terry, Interim Fire Chief
SUBJECT: Hydra-Shield Adapters
Based on the information provided in the literature from Hydra-
Shield, I feel the use of their product is certainly worth looking
into. As I said today on the phone, I am concerned about potential
deteriation of the rubber seals and the possibility of dirt and/or
ice build up in the quarter-turn grooves if this style hydrant were
placed in service without "blind" caps. However, I feel that if the
manufacturer could modify the caps to allow for water flow
detection without exposing either the gasket or groves to the
elements, this would be acceptable as a "test system" for our
evaluation. With this modification, water theft would be deterred
without compromising fire protection.
If any other information is needed, please advise.
