FEATURES/BENEFITS
SPECIHCATIONS
AMERICAN FLOW CONTROL A
SERIES 500 RESILIENT WEDGE VALVE
FEATURES
The Series 500 Resilient Wedge
Gate Valve is designed for use in
parable water, sewage, fire protection
systems as well as irrigation and back-
flow control systems.
Ductile Iron Wedge
This valve features a high strength
ductile iron wedge encapsulated by
a bonded-in-place nitrile elastomer.
This allows the valve to seal baffle
tight equally well with the flow in either
direction, The bronze stem nut is Inde-
pendent of the wedge. This feature
allows the wedge to serf-adjust for the
best seating possible and eliminates
stem binding,
Fusion Bonded ipoxy
The Series 500 valve Is fully epoxy
coated on the interior as well as the
exterior. The fusion bonded coating
is applied prior to assembly so that
even the bolt holes and body-to-bon-
net flange surfaces are epoxy coated.
Thple O-ring Stem Seals
This valve features triple O-ring
stem seals. Two O-rings are located
above the thrust collar and one O-ring
Is located below the thrust collar. The
lower two O-rings provide a perma-
nently ,sealed lubrication chamber.
The benefit being that the valve will
be easy to operate over a long
period of time. The upper O-ring
assures that sand, dirt or grit cannot
enter the valve to cause damage to
the lower O-dngs, This is especially
Important for buded and sewage ser-
vice applications.
Thrust Washers
Two thrust washers are used. One
is located above and one is located
below the thrust collar. These thrust
washers greatly reduce required oper-
ational torques.
NO Flat Gaskets
The body-to-bonnet and bonnet-
to-bonnet covet seals are pressure
energized O-rings. This eliminates the
need for excessive bolt loading which
is required by designs that use flat
gaskets. The O-rings are reusable
which eliminates down time during
any needed repair.
The Series 500 Resilient Wedge
Gate Valve is In full compliance with
AWWA C509. This valve is furnished In
configurations that are listed by
Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. and
approved by Factory Mutual
Research Corporation.
The Series 500 Ductile Iron Resilient Wedge Gate Valve has these

The Universal Air Valve is designed to permil automatic escape of large
quantities ~d air from a pipeline when the iine is being filled. and permit air to
enter the pipeline when the line is being emptied. It will also allow ac-
cumulating air to escape while the line is in operation and under pressure.
This is accomplished through the functioning or a compound lever system in
ccmjunction with a large and small orifice in one integral body casting.
As the liquid rises into the valve, air escapes through the large orifice to
atmnsphe~ Liquid entering the valve raises the float and lever system. carry-
ing with it the pressure plunger and the main valve. When the liquid has
raised the float to its limit, the stainless steel main valve rests against the seat
and the pressure plunger also rests against its seat, which is the main valve In
this position, the val~ is dosed and no liquid can escap~
[f accumulating air rises into the valve while the line is in operation and
under pressure, it wifi displace the liquid at the top of the valve body and the
float will drop as the liquid ~ecede~ As this occurs, the pressure valve will
open, permitting the escape of the accumulated air, after which the liquid level
will rise and the valve will close.
Should the pipeline be drained through natural processes or a large break
develop. the float will drop all the way down as the liquid level drains from the
alve body. The valve will then stay in the full open position permitting the en-
~Y~ance of air and eliminating danger of pipeline collapse due to vacuum.
These cycles wifl repeat automatically as each condition presents itself.
and the valve will f~nction satisfactorily with hot or cold water, and in the
presence o~ many chemicals and oil base liquids.

DUCTILE IRON RETAINER GLANDS
Mechanical joint Retainer Glands are designed to
provide a method far restraining mechanical joint pipe
and fittings and other standardized mechanical joints
against possible joint separation, rupture or blow-out
caused by internal water pressure.
The set screws are square-headed with Type C
knurled cup points, and are shipped already as-
sembled in the Glands. They are manufactured of
4140 grade alloy steel, and are heat treated to a
Rockwall 'C' 45/53 core hardness. Tee-head belts
and gaskets are not included, but may be ordered
separately. Recommended torque for set screws is 75
foot pounds, and set screws on opposite sides o~ the
glands should be tighh~ned alternately.
Tee-head bolt hole size and spacing are equal to
MJ Glands as shown in AWWA C-111. Standard
mechanical Joint gaskets as shown in C-111 should be

patented casing spacers
DISTRIBUTED BY:
rill patented casing spacers
for cased pipelines
rlKI, the leaders in casing spacer technology, has
been in business since 1977 and are ISO 9002
CERTIFIED. Their uniquely designed, engineered and
patented spacers are respected and their dependability
has made them the number one choice of spatillers
and installers world wide.
rll(i casing Spacers isolate water, sewer and gas
pipelines from casings simply and cost effectively.
Insulators are required to separate casing and carrier
pipes with the following criteria.
· Must ensure electrical insulation between the
two pipes
· permanently prevent bells from sliding or resting on
casing pipe
· Must fasten tightly on the carrier pipe to ensure no
horizontal movement during insertion
· Must be made of materials which do not conduct
electricity and are permanently resistant to
chemical corrosion
· Must be resistant to both mechanica~ and thermal
shocks and stresses particularly during installation
rol:l SPACER ADVANTAGES:
rill spacers meet the above requirements with the
following advantages over the standard skid and strap
application and other models of manufactured spacers.
· Spacers are manufactured entirely out of high
density polyethylene with NO METAL bolts or
attachments required
· Spacers are quickly and easily assembled by
manually fitting elements one into the other
Page
· Tooth insertion method allows on site adjustment to
fit a wide range of pipe diameters and coatings
· Spacers slide into casing with ease
· Spacers maintain continual long term support for
the carrier pipe and its contents
· Spacers provide constant projections around the
entire circumference of the carrier pipe,
· Spacers provide long term corrosion protection
· Spacers can be installed on coated or plain
concrete, ductile iron, plastic and steel pipe.
The spacers are divided into four groups which address
a wide range of pipe sizes and weights. Within each
grouping there are varying support heights that allow
the spacer to clear bell joints, flanges, couplings, and
otherjointing methods. These heights range from
.78 inches to 5.11 inches (20 - 130 mm)
SPECIAL APPLICATIONS: For applications with
temperatures in excess of 60'C/140' F spacers are
available in nylon.
On request spacers can be manufactured in other
types of plastic material according to the mechanical
and temperature requirements of the pipeline.
The HDPE spacer is manufactured by injection molding.
This gives it a high impact strength and a low
coefficient of friction which exceeds industry
standards. Each spacer element represents a flexible
section that has a toothed male butt strap at one end
and an appropriately toothed female slot on the other
end. Absolutely no metallic parts are involved in their
assembly. This design allows for on site adjustments
for any variances within the O.D, range. Coupled with
their flexibility they cover all types of pipe from O.D.
range 1,18 inches (30 mm) and upward.
