C/O DOWDEY, ANDERSON & ASSOCIATES 5225 Village Creek Drive, Suite 200 Piano, Texas 75093 Attention: Mr. Rodney Louviere Re: Summary of Field Density Tests VILLAS AT LAKE VISTA PHASE ONE Coppall, Texas ALPHA Report No. 04773-101 Submitled herewith is a summary letter regarding results of in-place field density tests conducted on both natural subgrade end recent fill soils placed at the project referenced above between March and April 2005. This information is provided to comply with recommendations in the Geotechnical Exploration report for the p~oj~ct (ALPHA Report No. G04773-1 dated November 18, 2004), Housing and Urban Development specifications, and our interpretation of the intent of FHA Data Sheet 79g. It should be noted that any retaining wall backfill that would encroach on building pads or other new fill placed within building pads should have additional field density testing. In-place field density tests have been conducted routinely at selected locations on both natural subgrade soils and fill soils placed during earthwork operations within the proposed building pad area for lots indicated on the "Grading Plan" Plate 16A of 19 dated April 18, 2005 for Villas at Lake Vista Phase One as prepared by Dowdey, Anderson & Associates, Inc. Each field density test was conducted using a nuclear density device in accordance with applicable ASTM specifications. Standard Proctor compaction tests have been conducted on the predominate soil types observed on the site for correlation with the in-place density test. Results of field density tests were submitted to the Client shortly upon completion oftbe testing. Field density tests results have been compared with specifications for soil compaction outlined in the Geotechnical Exploration report for the project (ALPHA Report No. G04773-1 dated November 18, 2004) end our interpretation of the intent of FHA Data Sheet 79g. Results of our review of tbese density tests indicate the fill at the specific test locations is compacted in accordance with the applicable recommendations in the Geotechnical Exploration report for the project and those in FHA Data Sheet 79g. Geotechnical Engineering · Construction Materials Testing · Environmental Engineering · Consulting ALPHA Report No. 04733-101 The recommended depth of moisture conditioning for pads in Zone !II as identified in the Geotechnical Exploration report (ALPHA Report No. G04773-1 dated November 18, 2004) was completed during earthwork operations. Plastic sheeting was then placed above the moisture conditioned soils to maintain the moisture contents. Based on the completed subgrade improvements slab-on-grade foundations in Zone !II may be designed considering potential soil movements of 3 inches. It was a pleasure to be of service on this project. If we can be of further assistance, do not hesitate to contact our office. Sincerely yours, ALPHA TESTING, INC.
