There was also extended discussion about the timetable for the paving operation and the actual process of the paving operation. At the 11~ progress meeting on September 21~, representatives of the City's geotechnlcal film, Alpha Testing discussed requirements for the stabilization of the subgrade prior to the paving. Utility_ Relocations To date there is still a problem with the relocation of Paragon utilities east of CiCi's Pizza to MacArthur Blvd. Paragon representatives have indicated that they are prepared to rebuild the line and be completely clear of the project no later than October 8a, 1999. There are several other utility issues to be resolVed of which the most important in the past month has been properly placing conduits for future irrigation systems and TXU Electric so that they can eliminate some of the overhead wires currently crossing Sandy Lake Road. The sizing and locations of those conduits have been worked out and they are currently being installed prior to the placement of the paving. RESIDENTS MAY WISH TO FIND ALTERNATE ROUTES. Progress Meeting Held At the l0th progress meeting on August 17', there was discussion about the on-going difficulty in getting all the utilities relocated. There was also extended discussion about the timetable for the paving operation and the actual process of the paving operation. At the 11* progress meeting on September 21st, representatives of the City's geotechnical firm, Alpha Testing discussed requirements for the stabilization of the subgrade prior to the paving. Utility_ Relocations To date there is still a problem with the relocation of Paragon utilities east of CiCi's Pizza to MacArthur Blvd. Paragon representatives have indicated that they are prepared to rebuild the line and be completely clear of the project no later than October 8% 1999. October 1999 Ken Griffin, Director of Engineering Since Last Update You should have noticed that concrete barricades have been installed adjacent to the excavated sections lower than the existing Sandy Lake Road. Lower profile barricades will be added near streets and driveways so as not to create visibility problems. The contractor has continued to work on the installation of the 30" water line and has currently completed the installation up to the Samuel/Sandy Lake intersection. Progress on the project has been slow due to the need to drop back and install numerous conduits across the road to accommodate future irrigation systems, traffic wires and TXU lines. Current Issues The contractor's approved batch plant site will be generally located near Riverchase Drive on the north side of Sandy Lake Road. We anticipated having paving operations started by this time, however, the issues concerning placement of conduits for irrigation and TXU did affect the timetable. However, the contractor did begin liming Project ST 93-02 Denton Tap to MacArthur i operations during the week of September 27". The lime is placed in a slurry mix and then mixed into the existing subgrade. The lime itself is a chemical product placed with the soil to provide a stronger subgrade and better working platform for the contractor in cases of inclement weather. If all goes well with the subgrade preparation, the paving operation should begin in mid- October and take approximately two to three weeks to complete the first section. It is important that people be aware that during the paving operation traffic along Sandy Lake Road will be reduced to one lane in the vicinity of the paving. The trucks placing the concrete will block the westbound lane and cars will be flagged around the trucks. So while traffic will be maintained, there could be substantial delays based upon the volume of traffic. You may wish to f'md alternate routes to avoid Sandy Lake Road during the actual paving operation. Complaints / Concerns It became obvious during the rough cutting of the roadway section that the trees along the north side between Woodcrest and Trailwood were in danger. Upon inspection of the trees by our Leisure Services Department, it was determined that given the cuts adjacent to the trees and the future placement of the sidewall over the trees root systems that it was highly unlikely that the trees could survive. Therefore those trees will be removed. There was also a concern with the contractor's start time on Saturdays. The typical workday is 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The contractor has been instructed that Saturday work should adhere to the same schedule. In the Future The contractor will continue laying the 30" water line east of the Samuel intersection heading toward MacArthur Blvd. in the next month. As stated, during the week of September 27th the contractor began the liming October 1999 Ken Griffin, Director of Engineering operation associated with the first section of paving. The first section generally goes from Denton Tap Road to Moore Road on the north side. Once the subgrade has cured, the contractor will begin placing his reinforcing steel and mobilizing for his paving operation. With good weather, it is anticipated that the paving operation will take approximately 3 weeks for the first section. Throughout the paving operation, various side streets will be closed to expedite the paving. The closing of various side streets will allow the contractor to pave through the intersection as opposed to constructing the intersection one-half at a time. This should allow for a better end product. By the time you receive this update you will have already noticed that even during the liming operation the contractor closed off Heartz Road and Woodcrest to expedite the liming of the subgrade.
