Sandy Lake Road Project # ST 93-02 (from MacArthur
Update#1 '~ '~
The long awaited contract for the reconstruction of Sandy Lake ~
feet west of MacArthur Blvd. was awarded on August 25, 1998 to Ed Bell Construction
Company. Several meetings have been held with the contractor and it is anticipated that the fu'st
phase of construction will begin the week of October 19, 1998. The construction time for the
project is 850 calendar days. Therefore, the anticipated completion of the project is Spring
2001. It is the City's intent to send out monthly progress reports on the status of the project to
keep you informed of the progress of the work. It is our goal to provide information in the
updates to let you know major milestones that the contractor has completed, sections of work that
the contractor anticipates completing during the next month, any anticipated detours or other
disruptions, and an overall progress report on the project. The contractor's general approach to
the project is to leave the existing asphalt roadway in place for the traffic while he works on the
north two lanes and utility relocations. However, there could be some disruptions to traffic
depending on the type of work taking place. Once the north lanes are complete, the traffic will
be switched to the new north lanes and the existing asphalt roadway will be removed. A more
detailed breakdown of the project is attached.
The City's approach to keeping the citizens informed is monthly update letters, the establishment
of a separate ]ink on the C-Link telephone system and a web site to provide more specific up to
date information on the progress, status and timetable for the project. Hopefully, the C-Link
telephone number and the web page address can be provided in Update g2.
The contractor has designated Gary Pryor as Project Superintendent. For problems associated
with the project the main office number for Ed Bell Construction Company is (214)358-6581.
The City of Coppell is in the process of obtaining the services of an inspector specifically for this
project. Until that time, any issues concerning the project can be addressed to myself or Mike
