(Former designation T-42) SPECIFICATION COMPLIANCE: Federal Specification VVVV-C-540c. Underwriters' Laboratories UL-6, latest revision. American National Standards Institute (ANSI) C80.5. THREAD PROTECTORS: Aluminum Rigid Conduit is shipped with thread protectors, which shield threads, and simptify size selection. ADVANTAGES OF ALUMINUM RIGID CONDUIT Aluminum rigid conduit offers the electrical industry all the inherent physical advantages of this light metal at a cost competitive with ordinary conduit. LIGHT WEIGHT The light weight of aluminum in combination with high strength makes the aluminum ideal for any conduit installation. A 10 foot length of 4 inch aluminum rigid conduit weighs only 38 pounds, while a comparable length of steel conduit weighs 98 pounds. With aluminum conduit approximately one third the weight of steel, the costs of handling, fabricating, and installation are lowered substan- tially. CORROSION RESISTANCE Aluminum conduit resists most corrosive atmos- pheres and industrial environments that usually at- tack other types of metafiic conduit. In these appli- cations, aluminum requires no painting or replace- ment, resulting in considerable savings in mainte- nance COSTS. LOWER COST Aluminum conduit is competitive in material cost with steel conduit. Because of the ease of handling and fabricating aluminum in the field, the installed costs of aluminum conduit are usually lower than ordinary conduit. A'I'fRACTIVE APPEARANCE Aluminum presents a consistently good appear- ance, remaining clean and bright without painting or maintenance. Aluminum won't. rust or leave dis- coloring streaks and stains. NONSPARKING Aluminum is nonsparking, eliminating hazard in explosive atmospheres. NONMAGNETIC Nonmagnetic aluminum conduit reduces power loss due to voltage drop, resulting in power saving throughout life of installation. EASE OF INSTALLATION Aluminum conduit can be readily cut, bent, or threaded on the job, and it requires no special tools or installation equipment. In installations using large size conduit, ease of field fabrication is of special significance. RECOMMENDEDINSTALLATION PROCEDURES The Conventional tools and practices used on ordinary conduit can be utilized on Aluminum Rigid Conduit CUTTING: A hacksaw ~s recommended to cut sizes 1'/4" and smaller Larger sizes can be cut with power cut-off equlpmenl BENDING: Standard EMT benders, one s~ze larger than the size of the condu~t, should be used On conduit sizes f' and smaller. For sizes over 1", conventional equipment is recommended. THREADING: Sharp dies and conventional cutting oil should be used for aluminum conduit. Excellent results can be obtained with a general purpose emulsifiable oil. FI'TflNGS: Aluminum fittings are recommended; however, cadmium plated or galvanized fittings are satisfactory for most installations. IN CONCRETE: Aluminum conduit can safe~y be embedded ~n concrete where Chlorides are not present, whether the installation is below or above grade. The 1963 revision to the ACI Building Code 318 published by the American Concrete Institute prohibits the addition of additives containing calcium chloride to any concrete that may be in contact with prestressing steel. Aluminum conduit should not be directly imbedded in concrete containing soluble chlorides, such as calcium chloride, unwashed beach sand, sea water, or coral bearing aggregates. Aluminum conduit can be safely installed in concrete containing chlorides if an adequate protective coating of bitumastic or asphalt-base paint is applied, or the conduit wrapped with plastic tape. IN SOIL OR CINDERS: Aluminum conduit or steel conduit, when buried in soil or cinders, Should be treated with a protective coating of bitumastic or asphalt-base paint, or wrapped with plastic tape. Type CSBI Seals against fluids or gases that are inside a conduit and prevents them from entering an enclosure. Type CSBG w- Provides all the features of Types CSBE and CSBI and in addition prevents the sealing bushing from moving out of the end of the conduit should the internal pressure be high or if the fitting is used on con- duit in an inverted position. The Type CSBG fittings are capable of sealing against gas or fluid pressure of 100 psig, (non- segmented) Type CSBI and CSBE ,,, -- 50 psig. (non-segmented) Can also be supplied with Lay-In-Lug grounding wire connector. Use: These Conduit Sealing Bush- ings are used for sealing the ends of conduit in applications involving higher static gas or fluid pressures than can be handled by standard sealing bushmgs TYPE CSBE TYPE CSSI Features: · The complete assembly is provided with 1 or multiple holes to accommodate the size and number of cables which emerge from the conduit. When the fitting is in place and Ihe screws are tightened, Ihe neoprene sealing ring is compressed between the metal plates and is forced against the inside wall of the conduit and also against the cable insulation to effect a complete seal at the conduit end. · Blank fittings are available. These are intended as aban- donment devices only. Do not field ddll. · Consult lactory for all other applications TYPE CSBG · These fittings are simple to install. They eliminate the special preparation of the end of the conduit or the com- pounding of the conduit thread which is required on other types of sealing fittings used To seal against high pressures. Standard Materials: Slotted PVC coated steel discs. neoprene sealing ring and stainless steel socket head cap screws and washers. LOCking collars on type CSBG are hot dipped galvanized malleable or ductile iron. Alternate Materials: Also available with aluminum pressure discs (metal Plates). Because they require cable cutback of only 7 1/2 to 9" (19,0--22,9 cm) depending on cable size, type and voltage, the compact 5620K series terminations are truly space savers. Meets requirements of IEEE Standard 48-1990 for Class I terminations for indoor areas, and can be installed in upright or inverted positions. Each kit contains: · 3 Hi-K track-resistant silicone robber terminations · 3 Mechanical ground su'ap assemblies · Roll of Scotch 13 electrical semiconducting tape · 3 Strips of Scotch 24 shielding tape · 3 Strips of Scotch 70 silicone rubber electrical tape (except 5625K kit, which contains one roll) · 3 Packets of silicone grease · Sealant kit · Cable preparation kit · Instructions Each kit makes three single-phase terminations. Compression lugs not included, order separately. See page 87 in the "Lug & Connectors" section for ordering information. Note: Indoor terminations, such as 3M Cold Shrink QT II 5620K and 6020K series products, can be specified for most outdoor, pad-mounted switchgear and transformer applications, since these enclosure interiors are protected from direct exposure to the elements. The user is reminded that many of these cabinets are vented and that their interiors can be subjected to the effects of condensa- tion and wind-blown contaminants. When conditions of this nature are confirmed for a given installation, longer tubular or skirted QT II terminations can be selected in order to provide greater leakage current and flashover protection. Voltage Rating= 600 Volts Temperature Rating= 90°C Application: These cables are suitable for installation in wet or dry locations. Cable jackets are sunlight resistant, impervious to moisture and vapor penetration, and non-propagating. The cables can be used in raceways, supperfed by messenger wire, outdoor applications and direct burial applications. Unshielded Twisted non-shielded instrument pairs provide a minimal OD allowing greater tray and conduit fill. Non-shielded instrument pairs may be utilized when recommended by the Instrument manufacturer and used in a metallic conduit. Overall Shield Recommended for use in instrumentation and control applica- tions where signals are transmitted in excess of 100 millivolts except in areas where high voltage and current sources creates excessive noise interference. The Beldfoil® shield with drain wire provides 100% coverage for maximum shield effectiveness. Individually Shielded and Overall Shielded IndividuaJly shielded pairs or tdads with an overall shield are recommended for use in instrument and control applications where optimum noise rejection is required. Individual pair/triad shields are fully isolated from each other and contain a separate drain wire for grounding, to provide maximum protection from crosstalk and common mode interference, Cables with an overall shield provide additi6nal electrostatic noise protection. PLASTIC SPACERS FOR DUCT Vertical and Horizontal Interlocking For completely enclosed and locked-in duct banks · They snap together vertically for fast, secure field assembly. · Only two components, base and intermediate, are needed. Banding is not necessary. · With the VerticaI-Lok spacer, ducts are accurately separated. Spacers lock firmly together, preventing separation while workman walk atop the bank. · Alignment of the duct bank sections is relatively easy with this completely locked-in construction. · To prevent the top tier from floating during encased burial, it is suggested that in intermediate spacer be used as a cap. · Used in both EB and DB installations. · Vertical and horizontal interlocking permits building a strong, lock-in duct bank. A wide baseplate provides Solid suppOrt for heaviest loads.
