ST8601-CS 901102Construction Update On MacArthur Blvd. Construction of the road and bridge over Denton Creek is nmv underway on the 1,600 foot extension of MaeArthur Boulevard south of the Vista Ridge Business Park in Lewisville, Tex~s. Lomas Realty USA in conjunction with the Denton County Road Utility District awarded the contract for construction in July and clearing of the land for the roadway began immediateb~ MacArthur Boulevard runs through Vista Ridge, Lomas Realty's 1,000-acre multi-use facilit% in Lowisville. The 1,600 foot extension, beginning at the southern border of the business park and spanning Denton Creek, will make this six-lane thoroughfare a key arterial allowing easy access from Vista Ridge Mall in the north all the way to Grand Prairie in the south. The cost of the project is estimated at 81.5 million. According to ~Ibm Trainer, vice president of Lomas Realty USA, "We call this part of MaeArthur the 'missing link' because it's the only section uecessflry to connect the communities to the south directly to Vista Ridge and Lewisville. Completion is crucial for everyone in the areaY Since the axvard of the contract, construction crews have already completed the slope protection on the banks of Denton Creek aud have nearly completed the process of raising the grade for the roadway for the bridge. Motorists will be able to drive on the MaeArthur Boulevard extension in approximately six months. This overall transportation plan will be further enhanced in April of 1991 when contractors break ground on the interchange of the State Highway 121 By-Pass and Interstate 35. Texas Urban Forestry Award 1990 Vista Ridge Tree Farm Residents of Coppell, Valley Ranch, Las Colinas and north Irving will see immediate benefit from the MaeArthur extension. The multi-lane thorough- fare will be a more direct and less congested route for drivers to the Vista Ridge Business Park and the Vista Ridge Mall. The extension is estimated to cut approximately 15 minutes off the time it takes to drive from Valley Ranch to Vista Ridge Mall. Local businesses also stand to profit from the extension of the roadway. Recently, the Texas Forestry Service and the Texas Urban Forestry Council recognized a bomas Realty USA project for tree conservation at the Vista Ridge Tree Farm in be~visville Carter and Burgess, Inc., the engineering firm that designed the Vista Ridge Tree Farm and the entire Vista Ridge project, accepted the 1990 Texas Urban Forestry Award from the Texas Forestry Service and the Texas Urban Forestry Council at their annual conference. This was the only award given for design work and the first such award received by Carter and Burgess. "Although this award is given for the design of the project, we wanted to thank Lomas Realty for going the extra mile," said Larry O'Flinn of Carter & Burgess.
