Status Update
Sandy Lake Road (ST 93-01) and Belt Line Road (ST 93-04)
currently under design by Dallas County

The design of Sandy Lake Road and Belt Line Road is currently under way by Dallas County.
Because of design considerations and the need to acquire approximately 25 to 30 parcels of right-
of-way by the City along Sandy Lake Road, it is estimated that Belt Line Road from Denton Tap
to MacArthur will be completed and ready to go to bid for construction prior to Sandy l. ake
Road.
Council may recall that the County sold bond funds in 1990 to fund both projects with the
understanding that the City would absorb any short fall. We have tried to estimate throughout
the process what our potential liability could be. We currently have approximately one million
dollars set aside for right-of-way acquisition, amenity improvements such as brick pavers, wider
paving on Sandy Lake Road and upgrading traffic signals. If we proceed with Belt Line Road
funds will be available to construct it. However, the City would then be required to absorb any
short fall on Sandy Lake Road at such time as it is bid.
Unless Council has an objection, staff will be meeting with Dallas County to discuss timetables.
Also, we will inform Dallas County that the City offers no objections to proceeding with Belt
Line Road at this time and then proceeding with Sandy l. ake Road at such time as all right-of-
way has been acquired and the project is ready to go to construction.
