FIRE DEPARTMENT:
I) Fire hydrants required every 300 feet.
2) Must provide an all weather driving surface on not less
than 24 feet of unobstructed width, with adequate roadway
turning radius capable of supporting the imposed loads of
fire apparatus before construction begins.

3) Fire hydrants and water system must be operational before
construction begins.
4) The access roadway shall be extended to within 150 feet
of all portions of the exterior walls of the first story
of any building.
5) Uniform Fire Code, 1985 is applicable.

7) New City Ordinance June 26, 1986 - Fire Lanes must be a
minimum of 24 feet in width.

AN ORDINANCE OF TIIE CITY OF COPPELL, TEXAS, AMENDING CHAPTER 15
OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF COPPELL (TIIE CITY OF COPPELL
FIRE CODE) BY ADDING TIIERETO A NEW SECTION REGULATING FIRE LANES WIT}HN
THE CITY: PROVIDING FOR THE CONSTRUCTION AND MARKING OF FIRE LANES;
MAKING IT UNLAWFUL TO, PARK IN A FIRE LANE; PROVIDING A REPEALING CLAUSE:
PROVIDING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; PROVIDING FOR A PENALTY OF PINE NOT
TO EXCEED THE SUM OF TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS ($255.50) FOR EACH OFFENSE,
EXCEPT WI{ERE A DIFFERENT PENALTY HAS BEEN ESTABLISfIED BY STATE LAW
FOR SUCH OFFENSE, TIlE PENALTY SHALL BE THAT FIXED BY STATE LAW AND
FOR ANY OFFENSE WUICH IS A VIOLATION OF ANY PROVISION THAT GOVERNS
FIRE SAFETY, ZONING, PUBLIC BEALTtl AND SANITATION, OTHER THAN VEGETATION
AND LITTER VIOLATIONS, A PENALTY OF FINE NOT TO EXCEED THE SUM OF ONE
THOUSAND DOLLARS ($1,5(]0.50) FOR EACH OFFENSE.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COPPELL, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. ADDING NEW SECTION 15-5-5 TO THE FIRE CODE
Chapter ~_5 (The Fire Code) of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Coppell
is hereby amended 'by adding thereto a new Section 15-5-5 to read as follows:
"Seotlon 15-5-5 FIRE LANES
A, When part et' the private road is selected as a fire lane by
the Fire Chief, or his authorized ref~resentative, it shall be
marked along the perimeter with conspicuous signs in
accordance with the specifications shown on Exhibits ~5-1
and 15-2, and where a curb exists, the sign shall have the
words "FIRE LANE - NO PARKING" painted:
1. in four inch high letters -white in color;
2. at 15 foot Intervals;
3. on a contrasting background stripe - red in color, six
inches wide;
B. shall be free of all obstructions which pose a substantial
thread of interference to Fire Department, fire fighting or
rescue aetivlties;
C. shall be constructed in accordance with the specifications set
out In Exhibits 15-3 and 15-4 and shall be surfaced with a
material substantial to support any Fire Department vehicle;
D. shall be mainta[ned so that it remains struetuaHy unaffected
during inclement weather.
The operator of premises shall maintain, free of obstruction,
all fire lanes on his premises.
F. No person may mark, post, or otherwise identify a non-fire
]ane, private vehicuIar passageway:
1. as a fire lane; or
2. in such a manner as tends to create eonfusion as to
whether the passageway is a fire lane.
G. No person may park non-emergency vehieles in a fire lane.
H. An unauthorized vehicle in a fire lane
1. subject to removal by the operator of the premises,
with the expanse of removal and storage to be borne
by the registered owner of the vehicle;
2. subject to citation, as well as removal, by the Fire
Chief, his authorized representative, or a police
officer;
3. prima faeie evidence that the person in whose name
the vehlc}e is registered is the person who parked the
vehicle in the fire lane.
SECT[ON 2, REPEALING CLAUSE
Ail ordinances, or parts of ordinances, inconsistent or in conflict with the
provisions of this ordinance are hereby repealed.
SECTION 3. SEVEIZABILITY CLAUSE
If any article, paragraph or subdiv{sion, clause or provision of this ordinance
shall be adjudged invalid or held unconstitutionaI, the same shall not affect the validity
of this ordinance as a whole or any part or provision thereof, other than the part so
decided to be invalid or unconstitutional.
SECTION 4. PENALTY CLAUSE
Any person, firm or corporation violating any of the provisions of this ordinance
shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction, shall be punished by a
penaIty of fine not to exceed the sum of Two Hundred Dollars ($200.80) for each offense,
except where a different penalty has been established by state law for suoh offense,
the penalty shalI be that fixed by state [aw and for any offense which is a violation of
any provision that governs flre safety, zoning, public health and sanitation, other than
vegetation and litter violations, a penalty of fine not to exceed the sum of One Thousand
Dollars ($1,000.00) for eaoh offense, and each and every day such offense is continued
shall constitute a new and separate offense.
SECTION 5. EFFECT~¥E DATE
This ot'dinanee shall take el'feet immediateIy from and after the publication of
its eaptlon, as the law in such eases provides.

Construction - Fire lanes shall be constructed of an all-weather drivin{] surface

outside radius.
