Letter from TransWestern Property Company to the Mayor
concerning the proposed widening of Sandy Lake Road
(Ma~ur to the east City Limits ST 93-01)
December 22, 1993
I have received and reviewed a letter from TransWestem concerning the proposed access to the
shopping center located at the northeast corner of Sandy Lake Road and MacArthur Blvd. from
Mr. James Gaspard. This letter was also faxed to myself prior to the public meeting that was
held on December 20, 1993 at 6:30 p.m. Mr. Gaspard attended that meeting and I spent some
time talldng with him as I did with other citizens concerned with this roadway.
I also have been very concerned about the lack of access to Kimbel Court and have expressed
that concern to Dallas County via March 15th, 1993 and October 26th, 1993 letters. Both letters
alluded to the fact that there would be public comment on the lack of a median opening for
Kimbel Court and based on that public input there might need to be some changes to the design.
Dallas County informed the design engineer for this project in an August 5th, 1993 letter to
continue to show no median opening for Kimbel Court on the alignment plan. They also stated
in the same letter to the consultant that Coppell would hold a public meeting on the lack of
access for Kimbel Court. Dallas County responded to me in an April 28th letter that they felt
that no median opening for Kimbel Court was the best design configuration for Sandy Lake.
We had a very productive meeting on December 20th and Dallas County was represented at the
meeting. Based on that meeting and the citizen input concerning the lack of access for Kimbel
Court, it is my belief that Dallas County will be reevaluating the current design. We are
monitoring this very closely with Dallas County and we anticipate having another public meeting
some time after the first of the year concerning this portion of Sandy Lake Road.
