Dear Mr. Gonzales:
As requested, we are providing microcomputer specifications to assist you in purchasing a
computer for the proposed "closed-loop" signal system for Denton Tap Road. We are
including the minimum computer features needed based on the signal system software
requirements as well as the recommended features or components. When comparing the 286
(minimum) versus the 386 machine (recommended); the 386 allows more flexibility and the
additional cost is not significant when comparing computer power. Also, many of today's
leading software packages are written specifically for the 386 microcomputer.

Minimum Requirements
The microcomputer shall have as a minimum the following features:
· 80286 - 12 MHz CPU
· 80287 Math Co-Processor
· 640K RAM
· 1.2MB 5.25" or 1.44MB 3.5" floppy drive
· 40MB hard drive
· VGA color monitor
· 1 Parallel/1 Serial Ports
· 101 Key Keyboard
· 2400 baud modem
· DOS 3.2 and Documentation
Recommended Requirements
The minimum recommended features are as follows:
· 80386 - 25 MHz CPU
· 80387 Math Co-Processor
· 2MB RAM (expandable to 4MB)
· 1.2MB 5.25" floppy drive
· 1.44MB 3.5" floppy drive
· 100 MB hard drive w/controller and 20 MS seek time
· NEC 14" VGA Color Monitor (1024x768) w/16-bit VGA card or equal
· 1 Parallel/2 Serial Ports
· 101 Key Keyboard
· 2400 baud internal modem
· DOS and OS/2 compatible
· DOS 5.0 and Documentation
· 200 Watt (min.) Power Supply
Peripheral equipment to the microcomputer should include a 24-pin dot matrix printer with
form feed operation (Panasonic KX-1624 or equal) and a surge protector outlet strip.
