ST9301-CS 930614COPPELL PUBLIC WORKS MEMORANDUM DATE: TO: FROM: RE: June 14, 1993 Frank Trando, Interim city Manager W~o~ Steven G. Goram, Director of Public Bud Beene's Letter; Sandy Lake Road Bicycle & Pedestrian Provisions As you know, Rebecca Watson has been working diligently to secure in the planning scope an Allways path and bicycle path along Sandy Lake Road. The Planning Director, City Engineer and I met with Ms. Watson and discussed the possibility. She has been informed that funding is limited. Once a consultant is retained for this project and public meetings begin in order to get input from the community, staff will be in a better position to make recommendations with regard to provisions for bicycle/pedestrian pathways. If you have any questions regarding this, please let me know. SGG/sm DALLAS C O U N TY,--~.~,.~,]~ PUBLIC WORKS JUN - 8 ~993 June 3, 1993 M~ORANDUM JUN O ~ '~e~- TO: Frank Trando, Acting Coppell City Manager Dan Johnson, Carrollton City Manager Jan Hart, Dallas city Manager FROM: Allen Bud Beene, P.E. Director of Public Works SUBJECT: Sandy Lake Road Bicycle and Pedestrian Provisions Ms. Rebecca Watson has expressed an interest in providing accommodations for Bicycle and Pedestrian traffic on Sandy Lake Road. (See attached letter dated May 24, 1993). Improvement of Sandy Lake Road, from MacArthur Boulevard in Coppell to Old Denton Drive in Carrollton, was included in the 1991 Dallas County Bond Program. Limited funding for the project was approved by area voters to construct only four lanes of a planned six lane thoroughfare. We have executed an Interlocal Agreement for the Sandy Lake Road improvement project with your city. An increased project scope, as suggested by Ms. Watson, will require supplemental funding. It is respectfully requested that you advise us of your city's position on this request. Allen Bud Beene, P.E. Director of Public Works ABB : vj m XC: Commissioners Court T.R. Kennedy, P.E., Asst. I am writing to express my concern regarding t~le proposed expansion of Sandy Lake Road. I want to stress the importance of this road as a vital link to a public recreational area and a neighboring town. I want to encourage additional consideration by engineering as to how these improvements may best accomodate bicycle and pedestrian traffic. feel strongly that the County has an obligation to incorporate alternative forms of transportation and the need to do so should not be overlooked in these early stages of Planning and Development. I look forward to the day when m~ family and I can ride our bikes down Sandy Lake Road. Si ely, , XC: Honorable Lee F.
