Thank y2u for your letteil;ted January 22, 1991 regarding the Sandy~ake
Road expansion. I certainly appreciate your concern with this issue. How-
ever, there has been no decision made by the Coppell City Council that
would make Sandy Lake a six lane road. Our 1974, and subsequent 1980 and
1987 comprehensive zoning revisions have all shown Sandy Lake to eventually
be a six lane road. In 1990, we authorized a comprehensive west side
thoroughfare study (all arterials west of Denton Tap) and that report
concluded that only four lanes west of Denton Tap will be needed, however
right of way should be acquired for six lane if the need should ever be
founded. Ail new residential developments east of Denton Tap have given
sufficient right of way for six lanes since 1980.
The 1990 Bond Campaign brought to the voters a four lane road from Denton
Tap to MacArthur, and this was ove~he~ingly approved by the voters.
Since that time there has been no further discussion by the Coppell City
Council for anything but a four lane road. It ts true that Carrollton
plans to build a ~ix lane through their portion, but they have the new
161 freeway N-S that will bisect Sandy Lake at the a~sement park.
Therefore, I am not sure with what information you ~tate, "I hope our
City Council will reconsider this over-widening of Sandy Lake." A~ the
time n~ar~ for the road to be buil~, there will be n~rou~,public hearing~.
Certainly if there im contemplation for six lanes at that ti~ then that
would be part of the hearing procems am well.
~ank you for your concern. If ~ou have any further quemtions, please do
not hesitate to call me.
Sincerely,
cc; City Council
