SC-Austin E3-CS 900417APR t 161 Coppell, April 4, S. Moore Rd. Tx. 7501 9 1990 Mayor Mark Wolfe and the Coppell City Council, The Austin Elementary PTO (Parent Teacher Organizatioin) board and the Coppell Intermediate PTO board would like to express our concerns for the safety of our student population on Moore Rd. We are worried about the volume of the traffic that uses this street during the school hours particularly in the morning. The AM time presents a looming problem with the traffic not only going to school but also to work. With the width of this street and the thirtyfive miles per hour speed limit, many fast moving vehicles are traveling on Moore. This problem intensifies with these vehicles darting around other cars waiting to pull into Austin. In addition automobiles are turning onto Moore from the side streets and alleys. Frustration from the congested traffic is apparent. The Intermediate School children also cross Moore at many intersections by either bike or foot on their way to school. Therefore the sidewalks are heavily trafficked by both of the schools with much of this area not in a school zone. What an effort it becomes to arrive safely! The PTOs'concerns center around making the ENTIRE MOORE RD. a safer avenue for school pedestrian and vehicle traffic. We feel the city could help us to accomplish this objective. The list below has suggestions worth investigating 1. Reduce speed limit to 30 mph outside the school zone 2. Expand the school safety zone 3. Additional crosswalk for the CIS students to use on Moore 4. Stop signs added to key intersections Moore & Bethel School Moore & Shadowcrest 5. Police presence for speed detection weekly 6. Widen the entrance/exit into Austin Elementary or add another entrance into Austin allowing cars a separate entrance and exit We hope you will respond to the Moore Rd. safety is very important to the PTOs. issue.
