Traffic ConCern- Austin Elementary
Tickler 2/21/90
In review of the Austin Elementary School site plan available, there appears to
be two options open for more traffic capacity and better traffic flow.
OPTION ONE- Develop two driving lanes around the parent drop off loop. This
would requ/re supervision because the unloading students in the left lane will
have to cross the right driving lane to get to the school building.
OPTION TWO- Probably the best option would be to inatall a drive connecting the
parent drop off loop and the school bus drive. This would allow another
unloading lane and exit lane that is not available now.
As alluded to in your memo, you could make a pull off lane in the right-of-way
on Noore Road, but it would be better to keep the loading and unloading of
students on site and not out in the driving lanes.
As I have observed, parents park on the side streets across from Hoore Road from
the school site and walk over to school using the pedestrian/school crossing and
available guard.
The option here will of course depend upon the school edm~istretion and what
they can afford in both capital improvement funding and personnel available to
assist during the loading and unloading times.
Please let me know if you need any further ideas on this matter.
