It was their first meeting since Dec. 14. Site configuration and traffic flow of the new elementary school to be built next to Coppell Intermediate School was discussed with Gary Keep and Mile Elmore of SHWC Architects. "Right turn only" exits were discussed. The Board gave an- thorization for the architects to work with the city on the best means for traffic flow for proposed bus lanes, parking and parent pick up lanes. A motion was approved on a 4-3 vote to (a) expand parking in the bus lot, and (b) ~ add a second drive way exit at the end of the bus lot. Trustees Judi Baggett, Deena Reeve and Barb Schmidt voted against the motion. Alternatives were also authorized by unanimous Board vote to allow options for a 10-foot wider entry throat for the bus drive- way and/or to utilize a 45 degree entry angle in lieu of a 90 degree angle. Product type and Color selections for the new elementary building were discussed and unanimously approved as proposed by the archi- tects with some Board member concern expressed for the amount of yellow being used in interioraccent. Construction plans for the new elemcntary will go out for bids on Feb. 5. The school board will meet in a special session to award the c_gnstruction bid shortl.y after bids are opened on March 6. Site configuration depicts proposed traffic flow off Mockingbird for Parent Pick-Up lanes and Bus lanes for new elementrary, Curriculum changes were adopted by the Board for the High School's 1990-91 year. Practical writing was deleted as a requirement for all freshmen. Instead writing will be required of all freshmen who do not master the writing exam in the fall of their entry year. Family and Consumer Economics was deleted because its objectives were already being met in the Personal Business Management course. Chemistry II, Informational Processing (a voca- tional computer course), Choir 1I, and Reading Improvement were added to. the hig~h scho.ol'~ ~urricu- lum. Physical Education require- ments were reduced from 2 units to 1 and 1/2 beginning with the class of 1994. A proposal to employ Rutherford, Taylor & Company for financial audit services at a maximum cost of $7,500 was tabled until Superinten- dent Buddy Echols could discuss the 43 percent increase in fee cost with the company. A tax refund was approved for Skyline Mortgage Corporation be- cause of double tgayment of taxes. The resignation of head football coach Bob August was accepted by the Board.
