RE:
Metal Roof Variance Request for Exxon
I have received a request from Wayne Ban' who is representing the Exxon Company.
Mr. Bart is requesting permission to erect a canopy cover, that is constructed
of metal, at the proposed Exxon station located at the Southwest corner of the
intersection of Sandy Lake and Denton Tap, and at the proposed Exxon station
located at the Southwest corner of the intersection of MacArthur and Belt Line.
Section 9-7-1 A of the Code of Ordinances states:
"It shall be unlawful for a person to construct or locate a ...building
with a metal roof or metal awning within the corporate limits of
the City."
The metal portion of the roof is the flat area between the facia material at each
end. The metal material would not be visible from the ground.

Re:
Exxon Roof Deck
Finish ~ Material
Dear Mr. Jackson:
Exxon is requesting a variance on the type of material required for the canopy
roof deck material. The Exxon Company has a metal type roof on all its canopies
at all new locations. Their standard canopy has smooth acrylic panels on the
underside and an open deck top. The water drains through downspouts in the
canopy columns and the top cannot be seen from the ground. The exposed facia
will be 1" plaster to match the plastered facia around the top of the convenience
store building. This type of roof is an Exxon standard. We are requesting
that Exxon be granted a variance on its roof for the purpose of maintaining its
standard design and its reflected public image.
Enclosed please find twelve (12) copies of the proposed canopy to be used at
both Exxon sites in Coppell. We would appreciate your expedience in placing
this matter on the council docket April 12, 1988.
If you have any further questions or need any further information concerning
the canopy or materials used in said canopy, please feel free to call.
Sincerely,
HAMILL s McKINNEY,
