MEMORANDUM
December 30, 1993
Mayor and City Council
Jim Witt, City Manager
This week City Councilman Watson had a conversation with a representative from Catholic
Charities regarding Wellington Place. At this time, the Catholic Charities is very interested in
pursuing an affordable housing project at that location. There would be no Section vm
vouchers involved in this, but twenty percent (20%) of the total units would be dedicated to
those with incomes eighty percent (80%) below the median family income for Coppell. And,
an additional fifteen percent ( 15 %) would have an income fifty percent (50 % ) below the median.
At this time the Catholic Charities operates a similar project in DeSoto where it has 256 units.
The units in Coppell would not be targeted for seniors, but for general market purposes. The
timetable for this potential project is six months to one year away. The state is still in the
process of buying from the RTC the units at Wellington Place.
Please contact me if there are any questions, or if you feel our committee, recently appointed
to address the apartment issue in Coppell, should request that the Catholic Charities meet with
us to review the proposed plan.
