I wish the standards would allow for a blanket variance, but technically it can't. Each location must be identified and recorded. So you know what I am looking for, the measurement of the existing cress slope, how long this violation occurs (linear feet), and if the existing cross slopes decreases from one spot to another spot within the area identified. To be honest these are really hard to evaluate, because we are not sure what the new cross slope is going to end up as. What you might want to consider, is holding off on the variance. Go forward with your construction and then where you have identified the locations, submit your variance for only those location where it exceeds 2%. But at this time, do get the measurement of the existing cross slope. This way, when you submit your variance, you can tell me it was 6.5% existing and now that it has been renovated, the new cross slope is 4.5%. Then explain to me why it couldn't meet the 2% cross slope. This is just an example. The reason for this information is in case a compliant gets filed or an open record request is filed, the documentation is recorded. I hope you understand the need for this information. I am holding on to your variance until I hear back from you. Let me know if you have any questions. Gary L. The design of each ramp may vary so I can not determine the exact location where the transition will tie in to the existing sidewalk. I had thought I could get a variance before the surveying and design were started. Hopefully, it will turn out that I do not need a variance at many of the locations. It will take some time before I get the information to you. Suzan Taylor - Re: A6000062-Samuel Boulevard Sidewalk & Curb Ramps Project Page 2 If I need to proceed differently, please let me know. I fully understand the need for this transition area, however, you do not make reference to what the existing cross slopes are at every location? The department cannot issue a blanket variance. Each location must be identified and the cross slope must be recorded. If you can provide me this information, I can complete the final step of the process. You can send it electronic or fax it to me. I'll wait to hear from you. Gary L.
