A Top Performer in
TTI Channel Test
The Texa Transportation Institute (TTI)
just relea ed the results of last year's
channel I net testing. Good news! The
North Ar erican Green C350 passed the
sediment ~oss and vegetation establishment
criteria ti :ough each flow test and was
approved m the highest shear stress
category Fype H (> 6 lbs/Sq Ft tpounds per
square tk )O. The C350 was one of only
three ma ings. including the Tensar TM
3000 ant Synthetic Industries LandLok
450, to k ep soil loss to within TTI
failure p; tameters at shear stresses up
to 8 Ibs/t :1 Ft. Keep in mind that this
pert'orm~ ~ce was achieved after 3 to 6
months ( ~ vegetation growth, with a final
vegetati( ~ density on the C350 of 79% But 'also keep in mind that this stage of growth is what we
classify s "Phase 2" within our 3 Phase design system. So the numbers are quite impressive.
Among ~ le "not so fortunate" tull' reinforcement mattings in TYI channel testing was Enkamat 7020,
Greensu ak Pec-Mat, Mivamat TMg. and the PPS Permamat 20OE The Permamat 200F failed the
sedimen loss standard (1.00 cms ~centimerers) avg. loss from the channel surface) during the first flow
event of: lb~/gq Ft shear stress. The Enkamat didn't fare much better, allowing the loss of 1.23 cms of
soil und, r 3 lbs/Sq Ft shear stress. In contrast, at 3 lbs/Sq Ft, the C350 allowed only .59 cms soil loss,
well ant :r ~e 1.00 cms failure criteria. The Miramat TM8 was eliminated dunng the 5 lbs/Sq Ft flows.
while th Greenstreak Pec-Mat survived until the 6 lbs/Sq Ft shear tests ~ere run.
