The contractor should begin work on it this month. The main work on the project at this time is the lowering of the 30" City of Dallas water line that runs down Sandy Lake. That is a time sensitive issue. If it is not lowered soon it will affect the completion of the project. The water line supplies half of the Town of Flower Mounds water. Once we get deeper into Spring, Dallas will not allow us to shut down the water line to make connections. Without making connections, we can not take the old line out of service. Without taking the old line out of service, we can not continue with the construction of Sandy Lake until this Fall. Dallas typically will not allow their lines to be shut down after April 1. However, with the Spring rains they are working with us on a more flexible time line, but, time is critical for that portion of the project. As to the MacArthur crossing, we continually direct the contractor to keep the road in a drivable condition. Numerous patches have been made. It is the contractors' responsibility to keep the crossing repaired. It's important to note that when the contractor begins work on the intersection, MacArthur will be reduce to one lane each direction. Because we are cutting the intersection down about five feet, reducing the roadway is the only way to build the intersection. This will impact traffic movement. The contractor is still with in his time limit on this project. The current approved time expires in September 2001. However, the contractors' most recent schedule shows co, repletion in January 2002. I would be happy to discuss this further with you. Please give me a call at 972 304-3686. Thank You Ken Griffin, P.E. Director of Engineering/Public Works >>> "Fullwood, Chris" <CFULLWOO@temmc.com> 04/03 3:37 PM >>> Dear City Manager, What is the plan for the intersection of MacArthur and Sandy Lake? I have lived in Coppell for three years and it is worse now than when I first moved here. When they first started working on it I thought "Oh, wow. They are going to flatten out that annoying bump." Instead they have made it worse. Now there are bumps within the bump. The other day my pregnant wife and I where driving down MacArthur and through the intersection at Sandy Lake. The bumps are so bad that no matter how slowly I drive it hurts her stomach. It is also extremely hard on ones suspension especially if you drive a sports car or happen to have a sport suspension. The most ridiculous thing of all is when I go from my house (on Allen and MacArthur) to the intersection at Sandy lake (which is less than a mile away) it takes me the same amount of time as it does to drive from Sandy Lake to my office on 161 and MacArthur (which is about 14 miles). Considering the amount of taxes we pay in Coppell we should not be having this problem. I can understand that construction takes time. A few months. Maybe even a year. But two years? That is a bit absurd. What concerns me the most is that I do not see any effort to improve what has been done. I just see lots of work on Sandy Lake. Also it has to impede the response and ability of emergency vehicles to do there jobs effectively. concerned motorist and resident of Gibbs Station, Chris Fullwood CC: Clay Phillips; Jim Witt
