Sickels GroUD Proiect nows and University) Dan Marks presented the project and wants us to review the site plan. The preliminary plans have now being been submitted to the City. The project is 242,000 gross sq ft, in which 45,000 sq ft of parking and 6,000 sq ft of retail. Parking is behind the retail. single for retail on Iowa, residential is closer to university. There are 7 Iivelwork lofts, 135 units total including live/work lofts, fIrst level contains a lot of amenities including a lap pool, a 2 level parking garage, 231 total parking spaces. 2 elevators are provided. There is a corridor to street for people parking. Jay feels that any parking outside the structure will cause problems with the community. Jay brought up the issue of gentrification. Urged that we condominmize the retail units. Dan said that the plan is to do this. Roger Lewis asked about affordable housing vs. in lieu of fee. Jay pointed that you are inside a City of Villages and that there is a 20% set aside for affordable housing. Dan pointed out that they are still early in the process. Rick brought up the issue of the building being 6 stories, and the residents surrounding the building. Dan pointed out that the step back helps to mitigate the issue of shadowing. Some of the feedback includes: it has a Craftsman look, diverse look like our neighborhood, the building colors could change, colwnns are defmed, signage will help defIne commercial, city may ask for a significant change and come back to us to help mitigate. Drowsv Mall.lilies Mike Jermings mentioned that they are still in limbo in defIning the scope of the project. While the project is in limbo, they entered into a contact with the Children's Hospital to hring art there. He would communicate that he will show us the art. The contract begins at the end of September. Aztec Brewery Murals Adjacent to the brewery was a tasting room. The room includes ornate tables with carved chairs and there is a mural at each end of the room. All of this was removed professionally and donated to the City of San Diego and the Arts Commission is looking for a home for this. No dimensions were given, but it is long and narrow. There is a preference to locate it in Barrio Logan, where it was originally. Library maybe an area where it could be located. We should get help from the Latino commWlity to the appropriateness of locating it here. Envirobins A decision needs to be made on replacing the yellow panels. We were showed a variety of colors of earth tones and silver. Suggestion was to see 8 rendering of a couple of colors. Bottom panels are black. This will cause more of a minority for the color chosen.
