Dear Mr Marvin.
On behalf of Haverty's Furniture Companies, Inc and Hill Wilkinson, Ltd. we are requesting a
variance from the standard City of Coppell pavement specification for the Haver en
Expansion project at Gateway Business Park, Lot 1R, Block 2. We request to se 7- inches of 3,000
psi concrete without hme stabilized subgrade for the proposed truck trailer pa avement
expansion in heu of the City standard Class "C" concrete (3,600 psi) over 6- inches lime stabilized
subgrade.
This request is based on using the same pavement section approved for the original project in 1996
Attached is a copy of a letter dated July 30, 1996, from the Geotechnical Engineer for the original
project regarding elimination of the lime stabilization and a copy of a letter to Ken Griffin dated
August 1, 1996, requesting a variance from the City standard, with his approval to use 7- inches of
3,000 psi concrete in the loading dock and truck drive areas.

Re Pavement Design
Regional Distribution Center
Dallas, Texas
JUL 'S 1 1995
As discussed last week, we have reviewed the pavement recommendations for the
subject project. We recommend that the design of the pavement for the subject project
be modified to include special treatment of the soil surface to allow for elimination of the
6 -in. lime treated subgrade. We recommend that the subgrade in parking and drive
areas be scarified to a depth of at least 6 inches, water added as needed, and this layer
compacted to a dry density of 95 to 98 percent of the maximum dry density determined
by ASTM D 698 at a moisture content between Optimum Moisture Content and four
percentage points above Optimum Moisture Content determined by the same test. No
leveling sand should be used under the pavement, and the soil surface should be moist
when concrete is placed. All joints must be sealed and the sealant maintained.
We trust this provides the information you need at this time. Please call us if you have
any questions or require additional information.
