RE. Bethel Road Traffic Signals
Thanks - On the signs, I looked at the old spec (new one didn't get
attached) - it describes font sizes, but in order to estimate the sign
size I ne~QJo know the logo size, the specific spelling of the street
name ~.eth~ Bethel Rd, BETHEL RD, etc} and the block number and
direction for each sign - or do you just let the ~J1tractor figure it
out? The spec allows for 48, 72 and 96" signs.

If we delete the pedestal pole spec, does the City have one?

I didn't get the file with the City specs, just one with a list of them. i, {( e m '0' '.vd I v!
I have Sandy Lake, but just as a PDF Since we are bidding the signals vOl ,. .
as lump sum, should we delete the references to measurement and payment
in the detailed specs and say subsidiary to the signal lump sum bid
item?

Michael:
1 It is 'Bethel Road' I have included the specification for
illuminated street signs which should answer your questions.
2. Provide hardware only Can leave the corridor name and location of
the master controller blank.
3 Use current VIVDS specification (2004 TxDOT 6266)
4 Refer to TxDOT 287
5 Okay to refer to TxDOT's LMA
6 Add slack to quantity
7 Power service should be through pedestal. Go by TxDOT procedures on
configuration and wattage.
8 15' is typical. Use TxDOT maximum for 48" foundation
9 City spec controls. Delete TxDOT references on 'Traffic Signal
Poles' and "Pedestal Pole Assemblies' We will be paying for the traffic
signals 'Per Each' intersection and not as individual items. Garry and
Danny had done it that way in the set of draft specifications they
provided to us for our review I am providing a pay item description
I Suzan Taylor - RE. Bethel Road Traffic SignCJ~_ ~-=

that incorporates all of the information that you had for each of the
individual pay items. I also included the estimated quantities in the
pay item If the estimated quantities are shown on the plan sheets,
there is no need to include them in the pay item description. Please
review and make any changes to the pay item description as necessary
10 1 C#8 Bare Ground should be continuous.
11 Okay
12. The traffic signals are paid per each intersection
I am also attaching a copy of the technical specifications for the W
Sandy Lake Road project. The document has all of the specifications you
requested and more.

A few questions as we try to wrap up the signal plans:
*
Can you provide us the legends and sign sizes for the ILSN
signs
- BETHEL ROAD, ROYAL LANE, FREEPORT PARKWAY, including block numbers,
logo size, suffix abbreviations, etc.? Some maps refer to "BETHEL
SCHOOL ROAD" - how should the sign/plans read?
* On the spread spectrum radios, in the spec we need to provide
the corridor name and the location of the master controller Can you
provide this info? I also modified the format of the spec slightly to
take out the quantities and instead refer to the bid item list (see
attached)
* Should we use the current VIVDS spec (2004 TxDOT 6266) instead
of the 1993 version?
* Can we refer to TxDOT 287 for the Pedestal Pole instead of the
old TxDOT special?
* We have a 52' mast arm at Freeport, so we have also referred to
TxDOT's "LMA" long mast arm details.
* In the cable quantities, do you include any extra for slack
coiled in boxes (6'?) or in the controller base? Currently we have just
quantified point to point distances plus cable in the poles. If slack
is subsidiary, we should add this to the specs.
* Should the power service be via a wood pole or pedestal? Any
preferences on configuration/wattage or just go by TxDOT procedure?
* We do not have borings/penetration tests for pole foundations -
is there a typical depth that you use?
* In the attached bid item summary, I have tried to refer to the
appropriate City and TxDOT specs. I some cases the TxDOT spec may be
redundant or contradictory - I assume in these cases the City spec
controls? Any TxDOT references we should delete?
* SHould the 1 C#8 Bare ground be spliced in boxes or should there
be a continuous run from each pole back to the controller?
* I added a reference in the cable section for the 3C#18 to also
include the Opticom spec as there are more requirements there (although
it calls for 3C#20)
* How is the controller cabinet foundation paid for?
