Pavement Sub -base Proof - Rolling Observation
On April 18, 2006, Gary Dry of Lawrence Engineering was present at the Freeport Parkway
Pavement Reconstruction Project to observe proof - rolling of Freeport Parkway sub -base
materials Sections of Freeport Parkway pavement were removed and previous field density
tests had indicated compaction failures or possible proctor materials mis -match The areas to
be proof - rolled are as follows
1) Northbound Freeport Pkwy
of Wrangler Road
2) Northbound Freeport Pkwy
Wrangler Road
3) Northbound Freeport Pkwy
450' north of Wrangler Road
— outside lane — Between Wrangler Road and 350' south
— outside lane — Between Wrangler Road and 100' north of
— outside lane — Between 150' north of Wrangler Road and
To perform the proof - rolling operations, Advance Paving Company supplied a dual axle, 15
cubic yard dump truck, loaded with concrete paving debris No actual weight ticket was
available at the time of observation Estimated weight of approximately 65,000 to 72,000 gross
pounds based on truck weight and load capacity
The observation results indicated two small areas of soft sub -base materials The soft materials
indicated were removed, replaced with onsite material and reworked prior to retesting Areas
observed were recommended to pass and ready to receive flexible base subgrade
