STAFF RECOMMENDS: Approval X r° Denial 7 1 Tlz �7 STAFF COMMENTS: In anticipation of future development at the intersection of Belt Line Road /Lakeshore Drive the Engineering Department designed a traffic signal to be installed at the intersection. While there is a traffic signal at Wrangler Drive, the anticipated a.m. turning movements will necessitate a traffic signal at Lake Shore Drive at such time as the Vari -Lite development, along with other development along Lake Shore Drive, is constructed. While this project was under design, the City of Coppell, in conjunction with the City of Irving, received funding to study the traffic lights along Belt Line Road in regard to synchronization and flow of traffic. Prior to including the traffic light at Lake Shore Drive, the Texas Department of Transportation performed an abbreviated signal warrant for that intersection. Included with this agenda item is the result of the abbreviated study which shows that with the proposed distribution center i.e. Vari -Lite, the peak hour warrants are met for the intersection of Belt Line /Lake Shore Drive. On May 15, 1997 four bids were opened for traffic signal installation at Belt Line Road /Lakeshore Drive. The low bidder for the project was Durable Specialties, Inc. in the amount of $64,724.20. The contractor's qualifications and references have been verified and are acceptable. Staff recommends approval of Bid #Q- 0497 -01 to Durable Specialties, Inc. in the amount of $64,724.20 and staff will be available to answer any questions at the Council meeting. BUDGET AMT.$ AMT.
