Bethel Road II
Suzan,
I'm so sorry for not getting back with you sooner about the corner clip
issue. I was out of town on vacation and just failed to get this done
prior to leaving.
We can make a sidewalk work without needing the corner clip. The
attached sketch shows a solution maintaining the 8' wide sidewalk around
the corner. I don't like this as much, but it works. The ramp would be
similar to the configuration on the south side of the street. We would
also need to move the traffic signal pole over, but I don't think it's
good to move these poles closer to the curb line.
Is it possible to get some clarification on whether the barber pole is
truly historic and not just old? We were proposing to simply relocate
the barber pole. Is there any chance the city could make a bargain with
the owner to move the barber pole, include some landscaping around it,
and connect the sidewalks up to his stoop?
Something else that needs to be clear between the City and Mr. Shirley
is that we have shown the asphalt pavement on the west side of the
building to be removed. Most of the pavement removal is for aesthetics,
but some is necessary to make up the grade difference on Coppell Rd.
Hope this helps for your discussions and again I sincerely apologize for
not getting this to you sooner.
Trish

Tricia:
We show obtaining a corner clip from the Shirley property (Parcel13)
and relocating the barber pole. Mr. Shirley met with Ken today and does
not want to give us the corner clip and most definitely does not want us
to relocate the barber pole. Would you please look at the ramp and
sidewalk that conflict with his property and barber pole and see if you
can work the sidewalk and ramp around his property and barber pole and
still meet the ADA requirements. If we can not meet the ADA
requirements we will have to ask for a variance - the barber pole has
historical significance. We will need an exhibit at a larger scale to

barber pole.
Thanks
