Proposed Siren Site From: To: Date: Subject: John Patterson Suzan Taylor 2/24/2005 5:09 PM Proposed Siren Site Suzan, The primary reasons that location was selected are 1. The siren cannot be to the north of Sandy Lake due to the transmission wires coming from the Power Substation that would interfere with the operations of the radio that activates the sirens. 2. That location is higher than the other selections in area allowing a better coverage area. 3. If we move it too far out of the area, then we run the risk of losing some coverage area. 4. If the church is concerned with the noise of it during their operations, the only times that it would be sounded during non emergencies is the 1st Wednesday of the month at 1 pm if the weather allows it. Additionally, the siren will generally only sound for generally two minutes as a maximum on test dates. Otherwise, they will be silent unless there is an emergency situation. If it sounds at any other time during the operations of the church and it is heard within, then it is the benefit of those in the church to be able to hear it better as they can take the appropriate measures to protect those within the church. That siren is an outdoor warning device and as such the sound is reduced by walls. Therefore, if the church is concerned with it interrupting day to day business on test dates, the siren although will be audible in side the church, I do not think it will be a nuisance those inside the church. 5. A benefit for my area would be that the church can use the siren as an educational tool to their children and congregation about the function and purpose of our outdoor warning system and what steps they can do to prepare and protect themselves. file://C:\temp\GW} 0000 1.HTM 2/28/2005 I Page 2 of2 If you think it would be of a benefit for me to be at the meeting, I will make myself available.
