Dear Mr; Griffin:
During the past year, several meetings have been held to assess whether area local
governments had an interest in pursuing projects under thc Uppcr Trinity River Feasibility Study
for the Denton Creek watershed. These potential projects could address a variety of issues such
as flooding, environmental restoration, and recreation. The proposed study would be undertaken
on a cost-shared basis and be conducted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Fort Worth
District (Corps), under the authority of the Upper Trinity River Basin Feasibility Study, in
conjunction with the non-Federal sponsor, the North Central Texas Council of Governments
(NCTCOG) representing participating local governments.
If local governments in the watershed area arc interested in pursuing a potential Corps cost-
shared project, they need to indicate that interest now. ffno local government expresses interest
there will be no further meetings to discuss the possibility. A local government expression of
interest does not obligate the entity to financially support thc study. As a part of the expression of
interest, the entities should identify potential problems and needs within their community to be
addressed through a cost-shared study effort. The correspondence may be from elected officials
or local government staff. Correspondence indicating local government interest in this
opportunity should be received by the Corps and/or NCTCOG no later than May 31, 1999.
If enough interest is expressed in the feasibility study, follow-on meetings will be scheduled
with the communities expressing interest. It should be noted that other Corps programs besides
the Upper Trinity River River Basin Feasibility Study could be utilized to help meet the needs
with certain entities.
If there is any additional information wc can provide to you, please do not hesitate to contact
Mr. Gene T. Rice, Jr., Project Manager, Fort Worth District at (817) 978-21 l0 or Mr. Jack
Tidwcll, Senior Environmental Planner, North Central Texas Council of Governments at
