Request Variance for Site Pavement to Waive Lime Stabilized subgrade
Dear Mr. Griffin:
On behalf of Transwestern Commercial Services we are requesting a variance from the standard City
of Coppell pavement specification for the Transwestern Commercial Services project at Gateway
Business Park No. 3, Block A, Lots 1 & 2.
We request a variance for the proposed car par 'ng areas to us~6-inch~of 3,600 psi concrete
c incorporating fly ash~at a rate not to excee 20°~of the total ce entiti s matte er~ (by weight),
without lime stabilized subgrade; in lieu of t~ Coppell standard of 5-inches of Class "C" concrete
(3,600 psi) over lime stabilized subgrade.
We request a variance for the .proposed fire lane and dumpster areas to use 7-inches of 3,600 .psi
concrete incorporating fly ash at a rate not to exceed 20% of the' total cementitious material (by
weight), without lime stabilized subgrade; in lieu of the Coppell standard of 6-inches of Class "C"
concrete (3,600 psi) over lime stabilizessubgrade.
Concrete in the Freeport Parkway right-of--way will conform to City of Coppell standard
specifications (Class C, 3,600 psi concrete with no fly ash, placed over lime stabilized subgrade per
Coppell standard details).

Dear Mr. Nelson:
We have been asked to provide alternative pavement subgrade preparation for
the referenced project. This letter presents our recommendations. This letter
should be considered an addendum to Rone's Geotechnicai Report No. 06-
12491 dated December 15, 2006 and should not be considered separately from
that report.
The original design pavement section for this project consists of Portland cement
concrete over lime treated subgrade. Increasing the concrete section by 1 inch
and eliminating lime treatment of the subgrade for areas subjected to passenger
cars and lighlty loaded trucks should provide a pavement section equal to or
superior to the original design pavement section. Lime treatment should not be
ommited for areas of the pavement subjected to heavy trucks and dumpsters.
Any other comments and recommendations contained in the original geotechnical
