Loop Detectors at Sandy Lake/MacArthur Intersection
The past three days the Sign/Signalization Technician has been
moni toring the above referenced intersection in regard to traffic
flows and, in particular, problems associated with the traffic
!lOOP detectors. The Technician has reported that the problem
_. earlier with motorists not driving upon the loop has improved
over the last several days . The amplifier has also been adjusted
on the loop to help in this area. The loops were installed by
design specifications.

O~~ Staff has ascertained a cost estimate from the contractor to install
? i an advanced loop for southbound traffic where the problems have
\ ~rimari ly been occuring for a total of $500.00. Staff recommends
~hat this be done.
Additionally, staff has ascertained a cost estimate for the
installation of split phase actuation on East/West Sandy Lake
Road. You may recall the March 10th ,memorandum where I advised
you the signal installation was completed and there was some backing
up of the west bound traffic because of the vehicles wishing to
turn south on MacArthur Blvd. The cost estimate for the split
phase actuation is $2,500.00. The contractor will give a $250.00
cost break if the Ci ty opts to install both the advanced loop
as well as the split phase actuation at a total cost of $2,750.00.
The Police Department has been extremely busy this week and unable
to provide their response as indicated in the March 10th memorandum.
I ,-haY.e---- been---adyi sed, _ however, that they wi 11 provide a report
by"id,gch 31, 1~'. By copy of this memorandum 11m also requesting
our E~neertng Department to review the intersection, either
in house or through our Consulting Engineer, and provide their
input and recommendation by March 31st as well in regard to the
split phase actuation on East/West Sandy Lake Road.
