Water leak East Sandy Lake

The water leak was repaired and service restored at about 9:00 pm last night. Verizon has asked to
leave the hole open most oftoday so they can repair their conduits. We didn't damage them, but they
were all broken up and that was how the water was getting to the Verizon manhole.
Today, we will pour the concrete back around the repair and start the backfill. Once that's complete we
will repour the road. Traffic should be back on it by mid February. Once that is complete, we are
going to have a mudjacking firm come out and underseal the paving and fill any voids that remain.
There were some voids caused by the water leak and some created just by virtue of excavating.
Just a clarification on Tidbits yesterday. An outside firm was called in to repair the leak not because
we lack experience, knowledge, equipment, etc., but the outside firm, Hanson, is the only firm that
repairs concrete cylinder pipe. They were actually working on a repair for the city of Grand Prairie
when we called. Because Grand Prairie was not ready yet they came to our repair. Most cities
cannot justify having a crew and equipment to repair concrete cylinder pipe because the breaks are so
infrequent. This is only the third leak that we have had on concrete cylinder pipe in about the last ten
years.
One other thought, the people that we had out of water for several days never complained or raised an
issue with the repair. Any chance that the city could provide them a gift certificate to one of our local
businesses as a way of saying thanks? Maybe a certificate for dinner at one of our nice restaurants?
Just a thought.
