Re: Job # 94093; Denton Tap Road; Coppell, Texas
Dear Mr. Campbell:
J. REA STEVENSON, P. E.
RONALD W. COOM BS, S.I.T.
CHARLES C. CROOK, P.E.
We have received several requests for information from Rebcon, Inc. regarding
the Denton Tap Road project. Martin Ledford our structural consultant is out of
town this week and we cannot confirm all items. The responses we can make to
date are discussed in the following:
June 25 letter from Rebcon: Rebcon proposed an alternate of prestressed
bridge panels which would provide a net $13,000 reduction in price for the
bridge. The alternate is acceptable to us and we have advised Rebcon
verbally several weeks ago. They should be preparing detailed shop drawing
plans for out review. Please advise Rebcon if the City has any issue with
accepting the alternate.
2. July 14 Transmittal with List of questions from Texas Prestressed Concrete,
Inc. dated July 8 Our responses to the five items noted in the letter are as
follows:
Item 1: The prestressed beams do not require rubbing.
Item 2: Air entranment is not required in the concrete.
Item 3: Martin Ledford is evaluating the concrete strength and will confirm
this item at a latter date.
Item 4: The strand required is % inch low relaxed strand @ 31.0 kips.
Item 5. The new TxDOT standard for the beam reinforcing steel is
accepted.

3. July 15 Request for Information No. 1: Our responses are as follows:
Items 1 & 2 will need to be addressed by Martin Ledford when he returns
next week.
Item 3: The bridge Piers are to be ended at elevation 443.75.
4. July 17 Request for Information No. 2: Our responses are as follows:
Item 1: The slab thickness is 7'/ ".
Item 2: The approach slab is 9" thick.
Item 3: The curb should be 6" high continuously to match the street curb
and the bridge curb.
Item 4: The toe detail indicated on sheet S9 provides the detailed section.
Item 5: The geotextile is a woven fabric. The Poly - Filter GB specified has
had a name change by the manufacturer and is called Carthage
Mills (30% opening area). I discussed the opening size with Tom
Baker the Geotechnical Engineer. Tom would like to sample the
soil at the cut location since only two borings were made near the
bridge area. Tom would then be able to make a more precise
computation of the opening size to be used. He indicated the size
would be at least ten percent. A copy of a summary specification
sheet is attached. We will consider an alternate woven fabric
supplier's product normally used by Olden if submitted as a shop
drawing submittal.
These are the responses to the information requested by the contractor we can
respond to at this time. When Martin Ledford returns, we will complete the
response. Please forward a copy of these comments to the contractor along with
any additional comments you may feel appropriate. We would like Ken Griffin's
authorization to obtain soil samples and run sieve analysis on the material at the
Gabion locations. The contractor will need to advise us whan he is excavating
near the gabion grade so samples can be taken. The cost for the samples,
sieve analysis, and computation will be under $1,200.
Very truly yours,
f 0
