MEMORANDUM
PROJECT: Denton Tap Road; Coppell, Texas
W&A #: 94093
We met at the job site with Mike Martin and Craig Olden to inspect existing conditions
impacting Gabion layout. Based on our infield observations, we elected to alter the
Gabion design for the placement outside the sheet pile header. The changes are
indicated on the attached sketch and described below:
1. The culvert headwall was moved back from the creek one pipe joint.
2. The Gabion baskets will be placed parallel to the sheet pile header as indicated in
the attached sketch. At the northwest and southwest ends two three feet wide baskets
will be turned 90 degrees to the channel as shown in the attached sketch.
3. The Gabions will be lowered to require more scour before being undercut as
indicated on sections A & B
4. The Gabions will not be grouted to secure to the rebar out of the header.
5. The rebar in the future headers will be lowered so the Gabions can also be lowered
as indicated in section B.
An additional inspection at the site will be order to make sure the grade in the Northwest
comer of the bridge will fit with the very steep existing creek bank. The layout as
changed is anticipated to protect the face of the sheet pile from bridge scouring and
abrasion. The bridge abutment is designed however to withstand no protection and
substantial scour along the face of the sheet piles. The Gabion layout as proposed is
anticipated to be more esthetic in appearance. The net area of Gabions is less than the
original plans and there is not anticipated to be any additional costs.
Please forward copies of the attached information and this memorandum to Rebcon.
