DR8802-CS 920505TO: Alan D. Ratliff, City Manager FROM:~nneth M. Griffin, P.E., City Engineer SUBJECT: DATE: May 5, 1992 As we discussed last week, there are still two items to be completed before we finalize the N. Kaye Street Drainage project. Neither one of those items were part of the construction project. Because they do not involve Rhode Construction, each of those items will be handled separately by the City. The first one involves the property owned by Mr. Welch. During the discussion with Mr. Welch for the easement acquisition, he was informed that the City would relocate his back fence to the existing stockade fence. There is currently about a five foot Dap between the two fences. This was not included as part of the construction contract. Therefore, the City obtained an estimate from Dee's Deck and Fence to relocate the fence. Dee's Deck and Fence was the low estimate when the City replaced the fence adjacent to Blake Svejkovsky's property. The estimate from Dee's Deck and Fence to relocate the fence on Mr. Welch's property is $1,316.00. The other item, not specifically covered in the contract, is for the replacement of a tree on property owned by Mr. Walker. The easement document indicates that the City will replace trees on an inch per inch basis. During the installation of the storm drainage system, a 6" oak tree was removed from Mr. Walker's property. This tree provided shade for a dog pen that he hms at the rear of his property. We have received a couple of estimates from local nurseries on the installation of a 6" oak tree to replace the one removed by the City. Landmark Nurseries provided a price of $360.00 for the tree, however, that did not include the installation or the ~uarantee for the tree. North Lake Nursery provided a cost of $600.00 for the 6" oak tree. This included the installation and a one year guarantee on the tree. The original contract amount for Kaye Street was $180,629.23. Previously, the City authorised the replacement of the fence on Blake Svejkovsky's property for $1,126.32. The construction project has been completed now and the libel cost is $170,281.23. The difference from the estimate to the final cost is due to the amount of sod used on the project. The estimate was 5,000 square yards and the actual usage was 2,400 square yards. Memo to Ala~ D. Ratliff, City Manager May 5, 1992 Page 2 My recommendation is to authorize Dee's Deck and Fence to relocate the fence on Mr. Welch's property at a cost of $1,316.00 and authorize North Lake Nursery to install a tree on Mr. Walker's property at a cost of $600.00. This will bring the total project cost to $173,323.55. The breakdown is as follows: Actual Construction Cost $170,281.23 Fence for Blake Svejkovsky's property 1,126.32 Fence on Mr. Welch's property 1,316.00 Tree on Mr. Walker's property 600.00 Total $173,323.55 If you concur with these recommendations, please sign and return a copy of this and I will authorize the appropriate people to complete the Kaye Street Drainage project. If you should have any questions, please feel free to contact me at your convenience. KMG/bd Approved by:
