Re: Beth~Road Drainage - Postal Site ~,
.\
D~r Mr. Min~.rd:
Bids were recefVed on August 26, 1988 for the construction of the
box culvert and appurtenances along Bethel Road and Freeport.
Enclosed is a bid tabulation of all bids received.
Buckelew Construction Company was the low bidder with a bid of
$473,929.50. Enclosed is a copy of their proposal which shows
all the unit prices. In checking references, this firm received
good recommendations.
This bid is approximately $186,000 lower than what was proposed
by Uvalde Construction Company, the contractor for the Royal Lane
project. The extra effort to re-advertise the project appears to
have been well worthwhile.
The estimated probable cost for the project is $600,000 which
includes construction, engineering, surveying, inspection,
testing and contingencies. Therefore, your portion should be
around $350,000. Since the proposed escrow agreement states that
Minyards' portion is "up to a maximum of $375,000", it is
recommended that the escrow agreement be executed as presented.
This will provide a safety cushion in the event that unexpected
costs occur while taking the Minyards' waterline out of service
temporarily and to allow a little additional funding for
landscape, which is yet to be approved.
It is our understanding that you are in receipt of all other
necessary documents, as transmitted by Mr. Ratliff on August 19,
1988.
It is our goal to have the contract awarded to Buckelew
Construction Company at the September 13, 1988 City Council
meeting.
