Re: Cement Dust at Point West 6-
Dear Mr. Davis,

The cement dust that you observed coming from our plant on the Point West job
yesterday was caused by too much pressure being put on the silo by the cement storage
tanker on the ground. This was a result of operator error and not so much mechanical
failure. The increased pressure did result in some of the filter cartridges in the bag house
on top of the silo to be unseated and displaced causing cement dust to blow through the
housing without being caught in the filter cartridge. We have put two strategies together
in order to prevent this from happening again in the future, one mechanical and one
instructional.
We have re-seated the filter cartridges and utilized large sheet metal screws to create a
better and stronger seal to the flange of the filter cartridge and the housing inside. This
should keep the filter cartridges from being pushed up out of their seat if the silo gets
over-pressurized again in the future.
We have also re-trained our personnel in the proper use of the cement storage tanker and
the appropriate pressures for successfully transferring cement to the silo without over-
pressurizing the system and creating failures in the dust suppression systems ofthe plant.
Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance in regards to this matter. I can be 0 (J /I
