re: Belt L~e Road ~oject 9]-829

Dear Mr. Martin:
As discussed in our previous field meeting, we will attempt to utilize the existing 18" RCP and inlets at
Moore Road on the above project instead of installing Line "L". Utilizing the existing underground
facilities will minimize construction exposure to the existing railroad signal, underground railroad
conduit, and telephone cables. The existing pipe will be cleaned out and the railroad ditch graded as
shown on the plans.
After our meeting, the Contractor presented a proposal to also leave the existing 48" RCP in place at
Mockingbird Lane for the same reasons. The existing pipe is very close to the location for the proposed
Line "H" and the existing/proposed flowlines are virtually identical. The existing 48" pipe will have to be
extended about 20 L.F. at each end to clear the proposed slope, and new Type "B" Headwalls will also
need to be installed and the existing pipe cleaned out.
The cost proposal for the above additional work versus the deleted work items results in an overall cost
savings. In addition, existing pavement and traffic flow will not be impacted as much by not having to
cross the street with pipe work at this time.
The other area disscussed in our field meeting was modifying the radius at the northeast corner of
MacAnhur Boulevard to less than 50' to provide as much clearance as possible from the railroad signal
and the existing traffic signal. There is a concern with turning movements of larger vehicles cutting across
this corner with the addition of the right turn lane. This is an area we might want to review again before
construction.
Finally, it has been deemed necessary to install a portion of the outfall of Line"I-I" across Belt Line Road
in order to maintain proper drainage on the north side of Phase I construction. The Contractor has
indicated that the crossing would take about two days and that traffic can be maintained along Belt Line
Road with some possible minor delays. This work would occur in the next week or two, possibly as early
as Wednesday, March 21. The Contractor will be instructed to notify the City of the exact days of
proposed construction.
Please let us know if there are any problems from the City's standpoint with any of the above items which
need to be addressed. Should you have any questions I may be reached at 214-653-6407.
Sincerely,
ears, P.E.
