Subject: Dividend/Beltline gutter capacity

Keith,
I will be emailing you a letter on letterhead (with my seal) stating this in the morning, but for now here is what we
have calculated. The total contributing area to the first curb inlet just south of the intersection of Beltline and
Dividend is 1.35 acres. Assuming a C=0.9 and I = 8.88, the total Q is 10.78 cfs. Based on the City of Dallas
gutter capacity nomograph and the existing cross section of Beltline, we have determined the capacity to be
approximately 12.5 cfs. Working the nomograph backwards and starting with approximately 11 cfs you can
expect a depth of flow to be around 0.4’ just before the inlet.
Please let me know if you have any questions and if you would like anything else other than this in a letter form.
Sincerely

Dear Mr. Marvin:
In accordance with the drainage issue brought up by Larry Davis about the
intersection of Dividend Drive and Beltline Road. we analyzed the condition and
found the following:
. The drainage area contributing to the intersection of Dividend Drive and
Beltline Road is 1.35 acres.
. Based on the City of Cappel! criteria for a 100 year storm the resulting a is
10.78 cfs.
. Based on the City of Dallas gutter capacity nomograph and existing cross
section of Beltline. the capacity of the gutter is approximately 12.5 cfs.
. With the contributing flow of 11 cfs, the depth at the curb is expected to be
0.4' just before the inlet.
We take no exceptions with the depth of flow in the street, as this is within normal
design standards.
If you have any questions regarding this issue or need any additional information,
please call me at your convenience.
