We recently received Notification of Construction, Announcement of Public Meeting
regarding project #ST 00-03 and if any of us on the block cannot make this meeting,
please consider this our official input.
We live on the 400 block of Whispering Hills, or houses abutting the 400 block of
Whispering Hills and we have concerns about re-routing traffic down our road. Our chief
concern is for our children. Between four to five houses on this short block, we have at
least thirteen children who regularly congregate on either side of the street, often crossing
back and forth ~playing catch, riding bikes or skate boards, playing hop-scotch, etc.
Many military maneuvers have been planned and executed by our sons and daughters
between these houses.
Because of the large number of children, we attract many from other streets in the
vicinity. The kids range in age from 2-3 years to 14-15 years. We love being a safe-
haven hub for the neighborhood and fear that re-routing traffic down our street will cause
either injury to our children or children who feel disenfranchised from their own
neighbors. We have already had "near misses" with cars going a little too fast and
children not being cautious enough ~ as kids are prone to be.
Please reconsider using Whispering Hills as an alternate route for construction. Weare
not designed as an arterial and a year of heavy traffic will cause a great hardship to the
neighborhood and our children. If Whispering Hills cannot be excluded in the traffic
flow pattern, we recommend extra measures to protect our children including
undulations, posted "Children at Play", reduced and posted speed limits, and increased
police presence.
Thank you for your time and notification of this public meeting.
