Keith had them probe the pond to determine the amount of silt that is in the pond. Once they had probed the pond, we discussed with them how they would approach the work. They stated that there are several approaches. One is to drain the pond and bring in earth moving equipment to remove the silt. This requires a large area to spread the muck so it can dry and then be hauled off. Another method is to bring in a barge with hoses to suck up the muck. This also requires a large area to dry the muck. The option that they thought would work best was to send divers in with vacuums to suck up the muck into a large container that has a liner that retains the dirt while letting the water drain back into the pond. At this time we are preparing drawings that show the depth of the pond when it was originally constructed. There would then be details stating that the pond should be returned to it's original depth. This information will then be placed on RFDepot (an online bidding service that the city uses) so we can receive bids and award a project. Our timetable to begin work is prior to September, since the monies for this project are in my 07/08 budget. Answers to questions: 1) How can we coordinate the building of the trails with the pond dredging? Would it make sense to have the pond dredged first and then build the trails? The projects should be separate. No trail should be constructed on the south or west side of the file://C:\Documents and Settings\rbrother\Local Settings\Temp\XPgrpwise\482C6032City... 5/21/2008 Page 2 of3 pond until it is dredged. Trails in those locations will be damaged during the dredging. 2) Also, will the City communicate to us on the work to be done before the dredging begins? Notices will be sent to the residents prior to any work beginning. 3) How deep will the dredging be? The dredging will only take the pond back to it's original depth. This means some areas may have several feet removed and others may have no silt removed. 4) Will the banks of the pond be filled in back to original state? This project does not include restoring banks around the pond. Bank maintenance is a natural function of the HOA. Our project is only to remove any silt that has accumulated in the pond as a result of work the city may have performed upstream that lead to silt being deposited in the pond. 5) How will the pond be accessed and type of equipment will be used? We do not instruct bidders on means and methods. Each contractor has different equipment and approaches to projects. Most likely the pond will be accessed from Park Valley Drive. 6) Will the City repair any damages to our landscape? i.e. sprinkler heads, torn up grass, etc. The contractor is responsible to repair any damage they cause. Contractors typically video and take pictures of an area before they begin work to document pre-construction conditions. They may also have the HOA operate the irrigation system to ensure it is working correctly. Hopefully this answered your questions. One of our homeowners has been working with Brad Reid on the trail from the park to the library. Chaucer is planning to install another trail from our neighborhood to connect to the one being built by the City. This trail will be built along our pond. It looks like construction on the trail will start around Oct. However, if the trail budget is used, construction may start earlier. Question is how can we coordinate the building of the trails with the pond dredging? Would it make sense to have the pond dredged first and then build the trails? It looks like we need to coordinate these projects to get the file://C:\Documents and Settings\rbrother\Local Settings\Temp\XPgrpwise\482C6032City... 5/21/2008 Page 3 of3 optimal results. Also, will the City communicate to us on the work to be done before the dredging begins? I've had a number of questions about the dredging - how deep will the dredging be? - will the banks of the pond be filled in back to original state? - how will the pond be accessed and type of equipment will be used? - will the City repair any damages to our landscape? i.e. sprinkler heads, torn up grass, etc. Any information you can provide will be helpful!! Feel free to give me a call if it would be better to talk over the phone.
